"My wish is to create a strong sustainable movement to
educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower
people everywhere to fight obesity." ~ Jamie Oliver
I think that's a succinct - and wonderful - wish for all of us who are fighting to fix our broken food system. It's broken. But it's not irretrievably so.
I signed it. And I'm sharing it. Here's the petition.
Too many kids don't know that lettuce grows in the ground. Too many kids don't realize that meat comes from an animal...not wrapped in cellophane at the grocery store. It takes some effort, but when you connect kids to their food - when you have kids cook their food - they understand food is not just sustenance. It's a story. And as the authors of this food story, it's ours to create!
I wear this around my neck almost everyday to remind myself...and remind my family: "Food has a story." We get to write it anyway we want.
