Dark Cherry Liqueur


Remember Dylan's new gadget - his cherry pitter?! Well, within 30 minutes of getting it, it was broken. Not quite sure if it was user error, or a defective pitter, but we exchanged it this morning and I put him to work this afternoon, pitting cherries for a dark cherry liqueur.

Little entrepreneur that he is, he asked how much I would pay him. Why should I pay you? "Because, Mom, I'm not going to get to enjoy what you're making. It has alcohol, right?" Fair enough. Three dollars.

3 C peeled, halved fruit - with the seed left intact on one half
2 C organic granulated sugar
3-1/2 C vodka



 
Mix everything together in a large glass canister and let the mixture age in a cool place for 4 months. Stir once a week or once every other week. The color will change to a deep red. This should be a fantastic addition to some Christmas baskets for friends. Cheers!

You're Invited: Take a (Virtual) Hawaiian Holiday with #FoodNFlix

Fall Break, Oahu, October 2017 For June, I am hosting  Food'N'Flix , the movie-watching, food-making group rallied by Heather of  All Roads Lead to the Kitchen . This week, my older son was supposed to graduate from high school and we were supposed to leave on a family vacation to the Big Island. But, as enter our eleventh week of being sheltered in place to flatten the curve of the coronavirus, all of our summer plans were canceled, including this long-planned graduation trip to Hawaii. Boo.
