Foodie Reads: On My Bookshelf

Just wanted to share the next four picks for one of my very favorite cooking groups: Cook the Books. Books + Cooking. You know I can't pass that up. Thankfully it's a bi-monthly foodie book club so I can relax a bit in case I'm having a busy month. I've included amazon links to the books in case you want to join the fun.*

Rachel of The Crispy Cook posted her invitation to the December-January pick - Sustenance and Desire: A Food Lover's Anthology of Sensuality and Humor by Bascove. Deadline is February 2nd.

Deb of Kahakai Kitchen selected our February-March selection. Comfort Me With Apples: More Adventures at the Table by Ruth Reichl. Deadline is March 30th.

Debra of Eliots Eats chose our April-May book - The Feast Nearby: How I lost my job, buried a marriage, and found my way by keeping chickens, foraging, preserving, bartering, and eating locally (all on $40 a week) by Robin Mather. Deadline is June 1st.

Our June-July 2015 book will be hosted by Simona of Briciole. The Wedding Bees: A Novel of Honey, Love, and Manners by Sarah-Kate Lynch. Deadline is August 3rd.

This will definitely keep me busy for awhile. I hope you'll join us for some great reading, cooking and community. Everyone is welcome to join in. The only requirement to join in the Cook the Books fun is to read the book and blog about it, including making a dish inspired by its pages.

*This blog currently has a partnership with Amazon.com in their affiliate program, which gives me a small percentage of sales if you buy a product through a link on my blog. If you are uncomfortable with this, feel free to go directly to Amazon.com and search for the book or item of your choice.

  1. I am currently reading sustenance and desire albeit slowly. I, too, am glad that it is a bimonthly club.

Connecticut Lobster Rolls, Canned Lobster Bisque, and a 2019 Henry Fessy 'Maître Bonhome' Viré-Clessé #Winophiles

This month the French Winophiles group is looking at affordable wines from Burgundy.  Host Cindy of Grape Experiences wrote: "Burgundy, or Bourgogne, is known for its wines of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir... as well as Aligote, Gamay, Sauvignon, César, Pinot Beurot, Sacy, Melon in lesser quantities. Many of the well-known wines are quite expensive, but there are plenty of values to be found." Read her invitation here. And there won't be a Twitter chat for this event, so you will have to dive into the articles themselves to read about our pairings and findings. Here's the line-up... You're Invited: Take a (Virtual) Hawaiian Holiday with #FoodNFlix

Fall Break, Oahu, October 2017 For June, I am hosting  Food'N'Flix , the movie-watching, food-making group rallied by Heather of  All Roads Lead to the Kitchen . This week, my older son was supposed to graduate from high school and we were supposed to leave on a family vacation to the Big Island. But, as enter our eleventh week of being sheltered in place to flatten the curve of the coronavirus, all of our summer plans were canceled, including this long-planned graduation trip to Hawaii. Boo. I understand the need to self-isolate. And we are abiding by the social distancing guidelines put in place by our state. But, boo, nonetheless. Oahu, October 2017 So for this month's Food'N'Flix, I chose to open up the field and let all of the food bloggers take a (virtual) Hawaiian holiday.  My boys have been to Oahu several times with my parents in recent years as my dad grew up there and wanted to spend some time on the island with his grandsons. Ke...
