Many. Possibilities. And all of those topics were fair game. What do Sicily and Campania have in common? If you said that they are wine-producing regions in Italy, you are correct. If you answered that they are volcanic regions that produce wine, then you are also correct...and headed in the right direction for this invitation. Now that we've wrapped our August #ItalianFWT event, I'm extending an invitation for September's event. I'm hosting! Let's talk volcanic wines and the areas around Etna and Vesuvius. You have just under a month to play, experiment, pair, cook, uncork, and join the party on Saturday, September 3rd. I can't wait to see what you choose. When I extended  an invitation  to the #winePW bloggers earlier this month, I wasn't sure what I planned to uncork and pair as we talked about  Scorched Terroir and Volcanic Wines. So. Many. Possibilities.  I decided that I would virtually circle the globe instead of trying to decide on a single wine. Four Volcanic Wines... I started my globe trotting in Santorini, pairing Smoky, Spicy Clams with Assyrtiko . Funny story: completely unaware of what I was pouring and why, my husband queried, "Does this seem smoky to you?" I picked my jaw up off the table and asked him to expand on that. After a second sip, he continued, "No, maybe I was imaging it...if you don't taste it. Do you taste the smoke?" I definitely did taste it, but thought it was only a figment of my imagination. But Jake confirmed it. Next I poured a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with a Passionfruit Pavlova .
