Bermuda's Signature Cocktail: Dark 'N' Stormy #EattheWorld

Welcome to the November 2022 event of  our #EattheWorld project, being spearheaded by Evelyne of  CulturEatz . Here's  her challenge .  This month, we are sharing recipes from Bermuda, here's the #EattheWorld line-up.. A Day in the Life on the Farm: Codfish Cakes   Amy’s Cooking Adventures: Bermuda Triangle Cocktail   Sugarlovespices: Bermuda Rum Cake with pecans (from scratch)   Culinary Adventures with Camilla: Bermuda’s Signature Cocktail: Dark ‘N’ Stormy  Sneha’s Recipe: Bermuda Johnny Bread   Kitchen Frau: Bermuda Fish Chowder Dark 'N' Stormy I am not a huge fan of rum. I'm more of a gin gal. However, Jake loves rum. So, when I saw that Bermuda's signature cocktail used rum, I took the opportunity to make him a special libation. Cheers! The actual cocktail uses Gosling's brand dark rum and ginger beer. I used a rum distilled in Trinidad and Tobago; the ginger beer is from the United Kingdom. So, not traditional Bermuda ingredient...

Tre Colori Spaghetti con Zucchine alla Nerano + A (Jarred) Old Fashioned #CooktheBooks

I am finally catching my breath and getting on top of my blogging deadlines! Oh, it has been a crazy time. I have cooked things for events and just didn't get around to writing it up. I hate that. I wasn't missing out on this book though because I adore him as an actor and recently discovered his travel documentary Searching for Italy. For the April-May selection of Cook the Books , Deb from Kahakai Kitchen invited the group to read Taste: My Life Through Food by Stanley Tucci. Read her invitation and join the fun, if you wish, because you still have a month before the deadline. On the Page Stanley Tucci is an Italian-American actor who has shared the magic of his family meals in The Tucci Cookbook  and The Tucci Table . And, as I already mentioned, he has a travel documentary series called Searching for Italy .  Taste: My Life Through Food  is a memoir whose tone reminds me of others I have devoured. Think Comfort Me With Apples: More Adventures at the Table by Ruth ...

The French Dispatch-Inspired Drinks Galore and Minced Lamb Bonbons in Pastry #MoviesandMunchies

The month is the second month of the new #MoviesandMunchies group. For February, Sue of Palatable Pastime asked us to watch The French Dispatch ; you can read her invitation here . I will start with this: I think you either love Wes Anderson movies, or you hate them. Back in August 2021, we were assigned Moonrise Kingdom  for #FoodNFlix and I went far Down the Wes Anderson Rabbit Hole . Actually, re-reading that post, maybe the reality is you either appreciate his movie-making style, or you don't.  A good friend of mine said she hated this movie. I actually quite enjoyed it. This is just one of the many reasons I love participating in our online movie and book groups; I am pushed to watch and read things that I may not have done otherwise. Besides, it's interesting to discuss with people who many not share your opinions. On the Screen image from imdb.com Like all his other movies, this one is odd, over-populated with characters, and visually distinctive. And, also, like his o...

Our Mis-Adventures of Mixed Drinks + The Last Word Cocktail #LitHappens #FoodieReads

While I used to be an equal opportunity imbiber - wine, beer, spirits, whatever - I have landed solidly in the wine camp over the past several years. We rarely drink beer anymore and I almost never make cocktails. But, as we neared a second pandemic birthday celebration for Jake's birthday and my birthday, I wanted to shake things up. So, I purchased a cocktail kit (it was really just the simple syrup set) and a virtual cocktail making class. That's how we kicked off his birthday weekend. He sat and listened to the facilitator while I played bartender. So, mis-adventure number one: Let's just say that three cocktails in the course of an hour-long class is way too many. About two too many as far as I am concerned. But we had fun and we didn't have to call for a ride because we were in our own house! Mis-adventure number two: I whipped up an Aviation cocktail and plunked a vinca blossom from our garden into the glass for the photograph. Turns out, it's poisonous...at ...
