Dacquoise with Cream and Berries #TheCakeSliceBakers

I am finally, finally jumping in to The Cake Slice Bakers events five months in to 2022. This year, the group is baking through Zoë Bakes Cakes: Everything You Need to Know to Make Your Favorite Layers, Bundts, Loaves, and More by Zoë Francois. I haven't participated at all this year; I bought the book in late 2021, tested a few recipes for the holidays, and promptly misplaced the book. For. More. Than. Four. Months. So, it was serendipitous that I found my book just in time for the May edition of #TheCakeSliceBakers! I looked at the three recipes that were chosen and knew exactly which one I wanted to serve for my forty-ninth birthday party. Are you the kind of person who likes to be spoiled on your birthday? Or are you, like me, the kind of person who bakes her own cake?!!?  Before I get down to the recipe, I'll recap what the group is all about since I haven't posted with them for all of 2022. In this group, we are given a selection of three cake recipes. We each choose ...

Vanilla-Macerated Berry Shortcake #FoodieExtravaganza

Foodie Extravaganza is where we celebrate obscure food holidays or cook and bake together with the same ingredient or theme each month. Posting day for #FoodieExtravaganza is always the first Wednesday of each month. If you are a blogger and would like to join our group and blog along with us, come join our Facebook page  Foodie Extravaganza . We would love to have you! If you're a spectator looking for delicious tid-bits check out our  Foodie Extravaganza Pinterest Board ! This month Kelly of Simply Inspired Meals is hosting the group as we shine the spotlight on strawberries. She wrote: "May is National Strawberry Month. Join us in creating recipes featuring strawberries as the star!" It was a timely invitation as I had just made a berry shortcake, by request, for my husband's birthday. Well, it was one of his requested treats. In any case, here's the  strawberry line-up from the #FoodieExtravaganza bloggers... Barbecued Strawberry Chicken From   Making Mira...

Not-So-Tiny Tres Leches #TheCakeSliceBaker

Here we are at the April 2021 edition of the Cake Slice Bakers. For 2021; we are baking from  Little Everyday Cakes: 50+ Perfectly Proportioned Confections to Enjoy Any Day of the Week  by Candace Floyd. * I can't believe that we're already in a new year. In many ways 2020 dragged on as the shelter-in-place orders continued month after month; on the other hand, it was a completely blur because there weren't milestones to mark the passage of time. In this group, we are given a selection of three cake recipes. We each choose one cake to bake, and then on the 20th - never before - we all post about our cake on our blogs. There are a few rules that we follow, but the most important ones are to have fun and enjoy baking & eating cakes! Follow our  Facebook ,  Instagram , and  Pinterest   pages where you can find all of our cakes, as well as inspiration for many other cakes. You can also click on the links below to take you to each of our cakes. If you have a...

Jasmine-Infused Tres Leches Bundt #BundtBakers

Here we are in April with the monthly post for the baking group called Bundt Bakers. #BundtBakers is a group of Bundt loving bakers who get together once a month to bake Bundts with a common ingredient or theme.  You can see all our of lovely Bundts by following our  Pinterest board . We take turns hosting each month and choosing the theme/ingredient. Updated links for all of our past events and more information about BundtBakers, can be found on our  home page . This month I am hosting the Bundt Bakers group. I wrote: "April showers bring blooming bundts?!? Okay, poet I am not. But I hope to inspire you to join me in using flowers for our April Bundt Bakers event. Use actual flowers, floral extract, or even just decorate your bundt with buttercream blossoms. Be creative!" Here's what the #BundtBakers are sharing for my Bundts in Bloom event... Cranberry and Rosewater Bundt by A Day in the Life on the Farm Devil's Food Cake With Hard Icing by Sneha's Recipe ...

Chocolate Caramel Cauldrons (Bittersweet Cremeux with Coffee Caramel and Bourbon Cream) #FoodNFlix

This month Tina of Squirrel Head Manor is hosting the Food'n'Flix bloggers as we watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone *. You can read her invitation here . Okay, I'll start with this: I am not a fan of the Harry Potter universe. There, I said it. I have tried to read the books. I have tried to watch the movies. Back in 2015, we read  Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone  for #TheBookClubCookbookCC and I made  Pumpkin Pasties . So, when I saw Tina's invitation, I posted to my local friends, "Does anyone have a DVD of the first Harry Potter movie? I could stream it for $3, but I'd rather borrow it for free if possible." The next day a DVD showed up on my doorstep from a friend. Except it was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets ...which didn't match Tina's invitation. I messaged my friend and stated, "I don't think this is the first one." The next day, another DVD showed up on my doorstep and it was the r...

Billowy Gingerbread Trifles #BakingBloggers

We don't live where it snows. And we definitely fall in the 'wimpy central Californian' category. Our optimal temperature range is about 55 degrees F on the low end and 75 degrees F on the high side. But we love to visit and play in the snow! So, I put on my thinking cap when Sue of Palatable Pastime encouraged the #BakingBloggers: "It's beginning to look a lot like wintry recipes. Let's bake up something white for snow day fun." Here's the Baking Bloggers' Snowy List Billowy Gingerbread Trifles from Culinary Adventures with Camilla Christmas Cookie Tree from A Day in the Life on the Farm Grandma's Meringue Cookies from Our Good Life Kourabiedes Greek Cookies With Powdered Sugar from Recipe Pocket Mexican Wedding Cookies from The Schizo Chef Snow Ball Cupcakes from Karen's Kitchen Stories Snowy Mountain Cookies from Jolene's Recipe Journal Sweet Buttermilk Pie from Food Lust People Love White Texas Sheet ...
