Pinole Azul + Blackberry Lemon Thumbprint Cookies #ShelterinPlaceCooking

As we ended Day 16 of our shelter-in-place order, I rummaged through my cabinets for inspiration to bake cookies. I came across two bags of Pinole Azul from Rancho Gordo , which is a ground, spiced blue corn flour used to make Atole. I decided that it could substitute for ground nuts since I didn't have any. If you don't have any Pinole Azul, feel free to use masa harina in its place. Just add in some extra cinnamon. I also found a jar of Blackberry Lemon Summer Jam from Happy Girl Kitchen Co . What I love about thumbprint cookies is their flexibility. You can use any kind of jam or jelly; and you can get that added texture with anything from ground nuts to a coarser grind of flour. Be creative. It's the perfect #ShelterinPlace recipe that allows you to rummage through your cabinets and still make a delicious cookie! Ingredients  makes approximately 30 cookies 3/4 C butter, at room temperature 3/4 C organic granulated sugar 2 eggs 2 C flour 1/2 C Pinole ...

Moroccan 'Cookie Recipe'

This weekend we had our extended family Christmas celebration. And I was thrilled to spend some time with my cousin's boyfriend, getting to know him and, especially, hearing about their recent travels to Morocco, Portugal, and Spain. I was quite envious of their globe-hopping and was happy to live vicariously through their tales. It was the first time that the larger family was meeting him - though he and Tiff had stopped by one of the boys' robotics competition earlier this Fall - and I have to say that he hung with the 'crazy' pretty darn well. My family can be loud and obnoxious. As D commented, "I don't envy any of the guys who marry into our family. But I'm glad that Daddy did." Me, too! While Tiff and Matt were in Morocco, they took a cooking class. And Tiff, who is a baker extraordinaire, brought some Moroccan cookies to the party. Actually, since they both took the cooking class, I'm not sure who baked them. Maybe both. In any cas...

Amoré Thumbprint Cookies #MomsMeet #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of  Moms Meet .  I received complimentary product for the purpose of review,  but all opinions are honest and they are my own.  This page may contain affiliate links. When the opportunity arose - through my association with  Moms Meet  - to try  Amoré Hazelnut Spread with Cocoa & Milk by   Once Again Nut Butter , I was excited. First, we love the Once Again nut butters in my household. We use almond butter in our  Pad Thai-inspired Cookies ; I made  Homemade Peanut Butter Cups .  We use nut butters in savories; we incorporate them into sweets. And, naturally, we use them to make nut butter and jam sandwiches! Second,  Amoré Hazelnut Spread with Cocoa & Milk is just like Nutella...only better because this version is organic and fairtrade-certified! Amoré's only ingredients are: fairtrade organic cane sugar, organic roasted hazelnut paste, organic sk...

A Day Full of Flowers + Filoli Quince Jam Thumbprint Cookies

Yesterday one of my best friends took me, and another best girlfriend, to Filoli in Woodside. You can read about the historic house and garden at their website . Jenn's birthday is in March; mine is in May. So, an April girls' day is the perfect in-between birthday celebration. Pia treated us to a delicious picnic brunch before we headed in to the grounds.     We strolled through the gardens, sticking our noses in blossoms, and soaking in the beautiful Spring day.    And afterwards, we ducked into the gift shop and picked up some goodies. I bought a jar of Filoli wildflower honey and a jar of quince jam. I love quince. If you're unfamiliar, here's a piece I wrote for  Edible Monterey Bay  in August 2014:  Queen of Quince Takes Her Show on the Road . Ingredients    makes approximately 30 cookies 3/4 C butter, room temperature 3/4 C organic granulated sugar 2 egg yolks 2 C flour 1/2 C ground almonds 2 t gin ...

Hallongrottor #FBLCookieExchange

For several years, I took part in The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap. I created, baked, and shipped off  Boozy Salted Fennel Pollen Shortbread  (2012),  Matcha-Black Sesame Shortbread  (2013),  Candied Buddha's Hand-Olive Oil Shortbread  (2014), and  Kaffir Lime Macaroons  (2015). Last year the organizers opted not to host the event and another group of blogging friends decided to create one. So, for year one of the Food Blogger Love Cookie Exchange coordinated by the gals at  The PinterTest Kitchen  and Sarah of  Fantastical Sharing of Recipes , I made   Boiled Cider Cookies with Candied Ginger  (2016). To participate in the event this year, bloggers were asked to donate to one (or both) of the following charities. Join us, if you're so inclined. No Kid Hungry  is an organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger. They believe no child should go to bed hungry.  CLICK HERE to sponso...
