Multi-Use Costumes, Supplì al Telefono, and Other #StarWarsFood for #FoodNFlix

Just a reminder why you're being bombarded by Star Wars-inspired recipes this month. Kelley of  Simply Inspired Meals is hosting a month of Star Wars recipes for  Food'N'Flix . You can read her invitation  here . I've decided to wrap up my Star Wars-inspired posts with a ball-shaped recipe in honor of our favorite sentient beach ball. BB-8! But first... Multi-Use Costumes My husband and his dad pals are out of control with the Halloween costumes...and they are die-hard Star Wars fans. Die. Hard. Whenever a new movie comes out, we go to opening night and wait in line for hours, taking turns running to the restaurant near the theatre for cocktails.  When The Force Awakens*  came out, not only did they create these costumes with the kids for Halloween 2015; but they  had  to go out for a photo shoot on the sand dunes. Here's R and one of his best friends (since kindergarten). He's BB-8 and she's Rey. If you are asking: How does so...

Yoda's Boozy Dagoba Swamp Brew #FoodNFlix #StarWarsFood

Ever since Luke Skywalker met Yoda in The Enpire Strikes Back* I have loved that cryptic little Jedi master! He was just the right amount of grumpy mixed with wisdom. And I clearly transferred that adoration to my kids. D loves Yoda, too. This was his costume for a preschool May the Fourth Be With You party. ...and he loved being the same size as Yoda at the Star Wars exhibit we attended in 2013. When I talked about what I could make that was Yoda-inspired, D remembered his Kaffir Lime Matcha Sugar Cookies   that were just the right shade of green. Just a reminder why you're being bombarded by Star Wars-inspired recipes...Kelley of Simply Inspired Meals is hosting a month of Star Wars recipes for Food'N'Flix . You can read her invitation here . So, D wanted to make cookies again, but I wanted to go 'swampy' and opted to make a homemade Italian liqueur made with foraged bay leaves. You can make this in as little as two weeks, but I prefer to ...

Chewie Ginger Cookies #FoodNFlix #StarWarsFood

This month Kelly of Simply Inspired Meals is hosting Food'N'Flix and has asked us to watch any of the movies in the Star Wars Universe for inspiration. You can read her invitation here . Ummm...my family is a little over the top when it comes to Star Wars. I am certain that I won't be able to limit it to one recipes, so, you'll just have to muddle through multiple Star Wars-inspired recipes this month. Sorry. But not really! Back in 2013, the Tech Museum in San Jose hosted the STAR WARS: Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit. And maybe, just maybe, we rented a room and hosted a Star Wars-themed brunch for D's 10th birthday party before getting tickets for the entire crew. Yes, I did that! I am still not sure who had more fun - the kids or the adults?! But what I am sure about is director J.J. Abrams' absolute genius in how he made and hyped Star Wars: The Force Awakens.* Three little words, uttered by a weathered Han Solo, ensured t...

Chewbacca Gingies for Secret Santa

'Tis the season...for gingerbread! The Enthusiastic Kitchen Elf decided to make some gingerbread cookies for his Secret Santa buddy. Since his buddy loves Star Wars as much as we do, he wanted to use his Chewbacca cutter instead of a traditional gingerbread man shape. Too cute. Ingredients 1¼ C organic dark brown sugar ¼ C butter, room temperature 1 large egg ⅓ C milk (I used whole milk) 1½ t baking soda 1½ t ground cinnamon 1 t ground ginger ½ t ground cardamom ¾ C unsulphured molasses ¼ C ginger syrup* 6 C flour ¼ C crystallized ginger (thinly sliced)* unsweetened cocoa powder, for rolling Procedure Beat brown sugar and butter together in a large bowl until well-combined. Add egg and milk. Beat again until smooth. Add baking soda, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, molasses, ginger syrup, and crystalized ginger. Beat again. Stir in 4 C of flour. Gradually add remaining flour, using a wooden spoon. Once the dough starts to b...
