Patatnik + 2016 Edoardo Miroglio Bio Mavrud & Rubin #EattheWorld

Welcome to our May #EattheWorld project, being spearheaded by Evelyne of  CulturEatz . Here's  her challenge . This month she said, "Let's dig a bit deeper into Eastern Europe with a culinary visit to Bulgaria!" It's hard to believe that we, at least in California, are going on nearly two months of shelter-in-place orders. It's been challenging to get the groceries I want, but we are making it work. But I always have potatoes and eggs these days. Before we get to my recipe, here are the others' Bulgarian recipes... Gheysavah #FoodieReads

It's hard to believe that it's already October! I am sharing my new favorite cookbook with  Foodie Reads Challenge :  The Saffron Tales: Recipes from the Persian Kitchen by Yasmin Khan. * I picked this up while I was reading Persepolis  by Marjane Satrapi. You can read about that book here . I love cookbooks with delicious recipes, sumptuous stories, and delectable photographs. This book has it all. I am considering an entire Persian feast for our Thanksgiving table this year. So, stay tuned. I plan to get a lot of use out of this book.  On the Page This is a really wonderful book. The recipes to be written well. The anecdotes made me feel as if I were sitting down and sharing a meal with the author. If you like to travel the world by tabletop as I do, you need this book in your collection. "...eating isn't just about filling your stomach.... It is an opportunity to sit with one another, to talk about your day, to share your problems, your thoughts, yo...

Some Birthday Love for My Love's Birthday

Fourteen years ago I took my new boyfriend on a camping trip for his birthday. Having known him for less than two months, when we woke up on the bank of the river on the morning of his birthday, he announced to me that we were going to be married one day. [Okay, those weren't his exact words, but that was the gist of it.] I laughed, nervously, at him and jumped in the river. On our wedding day, he asked if I remembered what he said at Deep Creek. And he said, "All I have to say is 'Ha, told you.'" Happy birthday, Jake! Life with the Manns is always an adventure. We like it like that. So, this morning, I decided to whip up a less-than-typical birthday feast. Recipes to come. Asparagus-Almond Pizza Honey-Cardamom Broiled Grapefruit Omelettes with Brie & Prosciutto

Speedy Omelettes

Taking full advantage of summer break and later bedtimes, paired with the fact that Jake was working late tonight, I took the boys out for a 4-mile jaunt through Point Lobos before dinner. And though they munched on peaches on the way home, they were ravenous by the time we pulled into the driveway. Sliced green onions from our CSA box, feta cheese, fresh oregano, and fresh thyme all gently folded into beaten eggs equaled my usual speedy dinner: omelettes. I blanched the orange cauliflower, drizzling it with olive oil, and hulled the strawberries, also from our High Ground Organics CSA, and called it good.  Dinner in less than twenty minutes. Pronto al tavolo! What's your favorite dinner-in-less-than twenty minutes?
