Spiced Bread Pudding with a Double Drizzle

Though bread pudding's roots reach back to Europe as a way to use stale bread, it is its place as a beloved dessert in New Orleans that had me pick it for the dessert at my July demo & tasting at The Quail & Olive this week...and I used fresh bread! Instead of the traditional bourbon sauce, I used the caramel and dark chocolate drizzles by Monin that Anni has in the pantry section of her store. Ingredients makes 12 individual puddings 6 cups bread (I used a soft white), torn into 1-inch pieces 1/3 cup organic dark brown sugar 1/3 cup maple syrup (from Runamok Maple ) 1 cup buttermilk 1 cup heavy cream 4 eggs 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (from The Casa Market ) 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (from Diaspora Co. ) 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger (from  Diaspora Co. ) 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, freshly grated (from  Diaspora Co. ) 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice 1/4 teaspoons ground cardamom Also needed: muffin baking dish, parchment paper or muffin cups; sauces for drizzling Proced...

JAWS-ome Iced Sugar Cookies

These will be included in our July Food'N'Flix event, so you can read why I've gone down the JAWS rabbit hole soon. But I wanted to make some shark-inspired sugar cookies to start. This is my go-to recipe for sugar cookies with just a little bit of vanilla and cardamom to keep them from being too plain; and the icing has just the right amount of tartness with freshly squeezed lemon juice. If you don't have ground cardamom, you can substitute ground cinnamon or leave it out completely. It will be just as delicious. Also, I used vanilla paste in this cookie; feel free to use vanilla extract if that's all you have. I just love the flecks of the vanilla seeds in this light-colored cookie. Ingredients Vanilla-Cardamom Sugar Cookies 2-3/4 cup flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup butter, softened 1 cup organic granulated sugar 2 eggs 1 teaspoon pure vanilla paste or extract 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom Also needed: shark cookie cutters* Royal Icing  (you ...

Spiced Sourdough Rolls with a Meyer Lemon Glaze #AdventuresofDoughbaFett

I'm part of an online Secret Sourdough Society in which we share recipes, ask questions about the sourdough process, and just generally inspire each other. Someone posted a photo of her sourdough cinnamon rolls and her process. Others linked up the recipes they have used. I almost ran into the kitchen to bake my own. I used Chelsea's proportions for the dough, then just sort of improvised the rest since I've made lots of cinnamon rolls in my life. The biggest changes: I added other spices to the mix and skipped the cream cheese frosting, drizzling the entire pan with a Meyer lemon glaze instead. And, truth be told, I rarely eat the sweets that I bake. I just don't have a sweet tooth. So, I don't know how these tasted, but six were devoured in less than 10 minutes of hitting the table and they rationed the others for the following day's breakfasts and snacks. I'd say that it was a hit. Adjust the spices for what you have in your cabinet or use all cinn...

La Vigilia di Natale + Panforte Margherita #VigiliaDiNatale #FishFridayFoodies

It's time for Fish Friday Foodies' December event. W e are a group of seafood-loving bloggers, rallied by Wendy of  A Day in the Life on the Farm , to   share fish and seafood recipes on the third Friday of the month. And t his month Karen of  Karen's Kitchen Stories  is at the helm, while the group serves up a virtual  La Vigilia  which is short for  La  Vigilia di Natale . Karen provided a little guidance by sharing: "The Feast of the Seven Fishes is an Italian American Christmas Eve tradition. There are no hard rules." She gave us the outline of the courses according to Bon Appetit  magazine and let us run with it. Years ago, when I was in college, I dated a guy whose family was from Calabria. And the first Christmas I spent with them was when I learned about this tradition. His family, however, did twelve fish courses - not seven - in honor of the twelve apostles. Ironically, no one in that family really cooked; so twelve course...
