Ñoquis de Papa + 2011 Tannat Viña Progreso Sueños de Elisa Barrica Abierta #TannatDay #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me in conjunction with the #TannatDay event.  Wine samples were provided for this post and this page may contain affiliate links.   I am thrilled to be part of #UruguayWineWeek and, especially ,#TannatDay. I have long admired the grape varietal since I was first introduced to it when the Wine Pairing Weekend crew focused on wines from Uruguay. Back in February 2019 I paired the Bouza 2016 "B6" Tannat with Brined Quail .   So, when I  received a package of two Tannats from Viña Progreso via Uruguay Wine*, I  was excited to learn more about the winemaker and the wines. I also received a bottle of his Viognier, but that will be the topic of another post. Viña Progreso by  Gabriel Pisano I didn't need to look much farther than Amanda Barnes'  South American Wine Guide's IGTV channel   to learn more about Gabriel Pisano and Viña Progreso. Amanda pointed me to her terroir talk with Pisano. IGTV is a n...

Choripán, Chimichurri, and the 2018 Viña Progreso Revolution Tannat #UruguayWineWeek #TannatDay #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me in conjunction with the #TannatDay event.  Wine samples were provided for this post and this page may contain affiliate links.   When one of my wine contacts asked if I'd like to be involved in celebrating Tannat Day during Uruguay Wine Week, I thought to myself, "Is that even a real question?" Of course I'd like to help celebrate Tannat Day.  So, here we are. A Tannat Hero and #TannatDay International Tannat Day is celebrated on April 14th commemorating the day of Pascual Harraigue's death in 1894. If you are like me and had to ask, "Who is Pascual Harraigue?", here's a brief answer. Born in Lapurdi, which was a Basque province but is now part of southwestern France, Harraigue emigrated from France, landing in Uruguay at the age of 19. He moved from Montevideo to Salto and eventually began to cultivate grapes on land he acquired.  Throughout his life, he grew and made wine with the Tannat grape. His first har...

Empanadas a la Criolla, Uruguayan Wines, and Upcoming #TannatDay #EattheWorld

It's hard to believe that it's April. This year has flown by so quickly. And, yet, it doesn't really feel as if we've turned a corner on this corona pandemic. Not yet anyway. But, at least in my county here in California, the restrictions are loosening and we're looking at getting more shots in arms. So that, hopefully, the world will actually open back up and we can dust off our passports for some real travel. Till then, I'm happy to travel by tabletop. Here we are in April for the fourth 2021 installment of our #EattheWorld project, being spearheaded by Evelyne of  CulturEatz . Here's  her challenge .  This month, we are sharing recipes from Uruguay. Here's the #EattheWorld line-up...
