Culinary Adventures with Camilla

Every March 2nd, at school, they celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read-Across-America Day by wearing pajamas, bringing in books, and reading. All. Day. Long. And to kick off that special event, I make green eggs and ham for breakfast. Last year, I tried to convince the boys that my (regular) eggs were, in fact, "green" because they were organic and free-range. They objected and said that I could, actually, put in green food-coloring just this one day a year and it would be fine. Riley reminded me about our discussion about moderation. So, this year - without the slightest hesitation - I plunked a few drops of green food-coloring into the scrambled eggs and served them in a croissant with some bacon. And their reproachful response: "Moooooommmmmm. You put food-coloring in our food?!?" I can't win! What a difference a year makes! I suppose I should be grateful. So, maybe this is the last year of the Mann-clan Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast.

Every year the boys' school celebrates Dr. Seuss's birthday with a pajama-clad day of reading; they get to wear pajamas, bring stuffed animals, bring blankets, and bring books to read. What fun! I wish I could wear my pajamas to work.  And every year we kick off the morning with a breakfast of green eggs and ham.  I tried, unsuccessfully I might add, to avoid the food coloring this year, telling them that "the eggs are 'green' as in 'organic' and 'free-range.'"  They were not going for it.  So I dug the vials of food coloring out of the far recesses of my cupboards, squeezed in a few drops, and called it good.  It's only once a year, right? “Do you like green eggs and ham?” “I do not like them, Sam-I-am. I do not like green eggs and ham!”
