Product Review: Peanut Bee Bites with MegaFood #MomsMeet #Sponsor

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of  Moms Meet . All opinions are my own. I'll just start with this: I don't typically take vitamin supplements; I prefer to get vitamins and minerals through whole foods. However, I'm not opposed to vitamin supplements and so, when the opportunity arose - through my association with  Moms Meet  - to try  MegaFood   products, I was intrigued by their company.  Their stated mission  to produce superior whole food supplements for those who care about their health and well-being resonates with me. The company started in 1973 (the year I was born!) and through the years they have grown and adapted, keeping their company informed and current with customers' needs. An example: in 2013, they  self-verified that all of their ingredients are free of GMOs. Additionally, they  support third party Non-GMO verifiers such as the Non-GMO Project and have elected to obtain this verification for ...

Gorilla Poop Cookies

"Mommy, can you please make gorilla poop cookies again?" What are you talking about? "You made gorilla poop cookies a long time ago. I want you to make those again, please. You didn't have to bake them. And they have peanut butter and oats and chocolate." That does not sound familiar...and definitely doesn't sound like something I would make. "You did. Can you look up a recipe?" Okay. I made them today...and D was ecstatic. Apparently everyone in the house remembers when I made these before. Really?!? And they were all excited that I made them again. "Take a photo," commanded Jake. "Mom actually made the same thing twice."  Very funny. Though I still doubt that I ever made these, a quick search rendered lots of variations of the recipe. I mixed and matched based on what D remembers them to be. Ingredients 3 C rolled oats 1 C semi-sweet chocolate chunks 1 C organic chunky pea...

Lactation Cookies v.2: Gluten-Free Chocolate Coconut Mounds

A couple of years ago a friend of mine had a baby and I whipped up a batch of Lactation Cookies for her. She just had Baby v.2; so I decided to make Lactation Cookies v.2. Just delivered them this evening. Hope she likes them. "Mom, may I try a cookie?" They're lactation cookies. "What's lactation?" Lactation is how moms feed their babies milk. "Wait...what do the cookies do?" They help moms produce more milk for the baby...at least that's the theory. Do you want to try one? "No, I don't want to lactate." Okay, more for her. Ingredients 1 1/2 C flour (I used a gluten-free flour) 2 C rolled oats 1 t baking soda 3/4 C almond butter 1/2 C butter, softened 1 C ground flax seed 3 T brewer’s yeast 1/3 C warm water 1 t cinnamon 1 C organic granulated sugar 2 t pure vanilla extact 1 T unsweetened cocoa powder 2 large eggs 1 C semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 C dried coconut shreds ...

Granola Bars à la A.B. (that's Alton Brown)

Have I mentioned my boys' (yes, all three of them!) recent obsession with Alton Brown's show Good Eats??  They watch it on Netflix and, honestly, I'm impressed with his ability to inspire my crew into the kitchen. My husband actually set foot in the kitchen and made A.B.'s Mint Julep ! They were all watching an episode that included granola bars and protein bars and asked, "Can we try?" Of course! I'm always looking for ways to eliminate packaged and processed foods from my shopping routine. Homemade granola bars seemed a perfect project as we head back to school this week. adapted from Alton Brown's Granola Bars recipe: here My husband is doing a gluten-free and dairy-free experiment, so I skipped the wheat germ, opting for flaxseed meal. I added in chia seeds and hemp seeds. I also subbed in olive oil for the butter. But I stayed true to the original process and will be making this weekly, I think. Ingredients 2 C old-fashion...

Savory Hops Granola

I have read about savory granola, but never made it myself. I've made sweet granola tons of times - Coconut Lychee Granola was one of my favorites! - and had some rolled oats leftover from my Mushroom Ginger Oat Congee so I decided to give a savory version a try. Thanks to some prepped herbs from Gourmet Garden Herbs & Spices * , an intriguing sauce from Not Ketchup , and hops from a friend's garden, this was delicious, unique, and not too difficult. You'll see this on a salad, instead of croutons, for my dinner party this weekend: A New Year, a menu inspired by seeds, sprouts, and buds. Ingredients 2 C rolled oats 1 C raw shelled pistachios ½ C raw pumpkin seeds ½ C raw sunflower seeds ½ C raw pecans ¼ cup raw sesame seeds 1 T fennel seeds 1 T white sesame seeds 1 T black sesame seeds 1 t chia seeds 3 hops blossoms, dried and pulled apart 1 t  freshly ground salt ½ t freshly ground pepper 1 large egg white, beaten ¼ C olive oil 1 T gin...

Rhubarb-Fennel Pollen Bars for Nicholas

One of my best friends - who is about to have a baby, as in any minute now - posted a recipe for me:  Smitten Kitchen's Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp Bars . Her note - "these made me think of you minus the strawberry." Despite most people pairing rhubarb with strawberry, I prefer my rhubarb plain. I jokingly told her that she needed to say, "Cam, Nicholas is craving these!" Then I'd whip up a batch for her. When I was at Whole Foods yesterday, there were five lonely stalks of rhubarb. They called my name. It was a sign. For the record, no, produce doesn't really talk to me...I'm not that crazy. But I scooped up all of the rhubarb and made these for Jenn and her unborn baby. And because I can't follow a recipe to save my life, these are inspired by Smitten Kitchen's recipe...with lots of adaptations. Can't wait to see if he's a rhubarb lover in a couple of years. Ingredients 2 C rolled oats 1 C flour (I used a white whole ...
