Rhubarb, Rose, and Almond Cake #TheCakeSliceBakers

Here we are the May edition of the Cake Slice Bakers. For 2020, we'll be baking from  The New Way to Cake: Simple Recipes with Exceptional Flavor  by Benjamina Ebuehi.* In this group, we are given a selection of three cake recipes. We each choose one cake to bake, and then on the 20th - never before - we all post about our cake on our blogs. There are a few rules that we follow, but the most important ones are to have fun and enjoy baking & eating cakes! Follow our  Facebook ,  Instagram , and  Pinterest   pages where you can find all of our cakes, as well as inspiration for many other cakes. You can also click on the links below to take you to each of our cakes. If you have a blog and are interested in joining The Cake Slice Bakers and baking along with us, please send an email to thecakeslicebakers at gmail dot com for more details. The Cake Slice Bakers also have a new Facebook group called  The Cake Slice Bakers and Friends . Th...

Olive-Oil Poached Salmon with Rhubarb Crème Fraîche + Donkey & Goat's 2013 Perli Syrah #LocavoreFeast #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me in conjunction with a Locavore Feast I hosted .  Wine samples and some ingredients were provided for this post and this page may contain affiliate links. When people tell me, "Oh, I don't eat __________" I consider that a challenge...so long as there are no actual allergies involved. For instance, when one of my best friends told me that he didn't eat "purple dirt circles" - what you and I would call beets! - I hosted a dinner party and everything included beets. Yes, even the dessert. He's a beet-convert now, by the way. So, my culinary ploys do work. When I found out that a few people at a dinner I was hosting didn't eat fish, I emailed back and forth with my contact at Real Good Fish* to come up with some non-fishy options. And I did have a back-up plan with roasted chicken in case those diners were more stubborn in their stance to not eat fish than I was to have them eat it. Poaching fish—gently ...

Vanilla-Flecked Cheesecake with a Rhubarb Drizzle #EighteenCheesecakes

Jake and I are celebrating 18 years of marriage tomorrow. That's a whole lifetime...well, at least the time it takes for a child to be considered an adult. On one hand it certainly feels like a lifetime; on the other, it seems to have passed in the blink of an eye. In this past eighteen years, we've had two boys, lived in two states and five different houses, and juggled probably a dozen different jobs between us. We've traveled to Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Florida, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona; we've visited Italy and Costa Rica. We've SCUBA'd, zip-lined, canoed, and tangoed. It's been an amazing adventure. Under the Wedding Maple at Owen R. Cheatham Redwood Grove, Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park But it's also been work. A lot of work. Don't let anyone tell you that marriage is easy. Maybe that is what makes the celebrations all the more sweet. So, why cheesecakes? you ask. Well, we had seven cheesecakes at our weddi...
