I've never made baked beans before, but starting with "The Best Baked Beans Ever" recipe from The Pioneer Woman Cooks blog can't be a bad place to start. Of course, I made a few changes. We'll have this for dinner tonight with roasted pumpkin and roasted pork tenderloin slices. Can't wait!
5 strips thick bacon
2 leeks
2 apples
1/4 C organic ketchup
2 T mustard2 T unsulphered molasses
1/2 C organic granulated sugar
1/3 C balsamic vinegarPreheat the oven to 325. In a large thick-bottomed pan, cook the bacon and sliced leeks until the fat has been rendered but the bacon is not crispy. Add the apples and (drained) beans.
Stir in everything else until well-combined. Place in a baking dish. Bake, covered with foil, for 2 hours.
