Sneak Peek: The #Winophiles Look at French Grapes Used Outside of France

We recently did this exercise for #ItalianFWT and I enjoyed that theme. So,  for the third French Winophiles' event of 2021, I am inviting the #Winophiles crew to explore indigenous or typical grapes from France with me. The twist: find a bottle of French grapes that are cultivated and made into wine somewhere else around the world.  I asked them to look at French varieties made into wines around the globe. Examples might be Cinsault but made in Chile; Semillon from Australia; or Négrette made in California.  I asked them to be creative. And they did. Here's the line-up for this weekend. Allison & Chris at AdVINEtures share French Grapes Around the World: Chardonnay in BC's Okanagan Valley. Andrea of The Quirky Cork declares Ooo la la! French Grapes in Turkey! A Sneak Peek: Saké & Other Pairings for Asian Foods #WinePW

Happy New Year. I am hosting the first Wine Pairing Weekend of 2021 and wanted to kick off the 2021 #WinePW line-up with something a little bit different, but really flexible, too. So, the theme I posted for the January 2021 assignment: Saké & Other Pairings for Asian Foods. A couple of things to note... Not Only Saké  I've long been interested in learning about saké (a fermented rice wine). So, if bloggers wanted to taste and pair saké with foods, great. Or if they wanted to share their favorite (grape) wines that they pair with Asian cuisine, that's wonderful, too.  The #WinePW Explorations An Affordable and Aromatic Gewürztraminer Paired with Red Thai Curry by Crushed Grape Chronicles Asian Appetizers Paired with Tozai Sake by A Day in the Life on the Farm Cashew Chicken With A Crisp Riesling by Our Good Life Ground Pork Stir Fry With Collard Greens by Cooking Chat Knocking off CPK While Sipping SMV Riesling by Exploring the Wine Glass Our Osechi Ryori おせち料理...

A #GodforsakenGrapes Preview #Winophiles

For our second event of the year, I invited the French Winophiles crew to track down some 'godforsaken grapes' and create a pairing. You can read my invitation:  You're Invited: Indigenous and Godforsaken French Grapes . Last month, the #WinePW discussed godforsaken grapes from anywhere in the world. We had wines from Macedonia, Georgia (the country, not the state), California, Austria, Turkey, Italy, and Southwest France. You can see that line-up in my post for that event,  An Unlikely Match: A Thai Favorite + A Qvevri-Aged Wine from the Republic of Georgia . This month, the #Winophiles are looking specifically as grapes in that category from France only! Here's how the crew will be answering the  French Indigenous Grapes and #GodforsakenGrapes challenge... A #GodforsakenGrapes Preview #WinePW

To kick off the year, I invited the Wine Pairing Weekend crew to track down some 'godforsaken grapes' and create a pairing. You can read my invitation: Let's Go (Wine) Geeky & Explore #GodforsakenGrapes for 2020's First #WinePW . In his Gazetteer of Godforsaken Grapes, in the book's appendix, Wilson lists 101 varieties to seek out. I created a checklist of all the varietals; out of 101, I've only tried seventeen. Wow. Looks as if I have a lot of tasting to do! Maybe I can track them all down before I'm fifty. That gives me about three and a half more years! Here's how the crew will be answering the #GodforsakenGrapes challenge... #WinePW Preview: The Feast Nearby - Grateful for Local Vintners and Seasonal Foods

Our November #WinePW event is coming up on Saturday; I'm ready to see what the bloggers came up with for this 'local vintners and seasonal foods' adventure. Join us for  'The Feast Nearby' Wine Pairings with Local Vintners and Seasonal Foods  As hostess, I asked the group to showcase - and share - wine from their favorite local vintner along with some dishes featuring seasonal foods. They may define 'local' however they wish. Make it a 10-mile radius, a 100-mile radius, or maybe it's from their home town - even if they don't live there anymore. As far as seasonal foods, I had truffles, persimmons, apples, and pumpkins on my mind. Live #winePW Twitter Chat November 12, 11 a.m. ET:  Participating bloggers and others interested in the subject can connect via a live Twitter chat. It's a nice bring way to bring in others interested in the subject who didn't get a chance to share a blog post. Follow us with hashtag #winePW this weekend...

Happy Birthday, Edible Monterey Bay!

Guess who's turning one?!? Edible Monterey Bay that's who. And, in typical Edible-style, they are celebrating with a lavish Farm-to-Table Wine Dinner at Live Earth Farm on Saturday, October 13th. Click here to read the event preview. A few things to note... The anniversary party takes place at Live Earth Farm , a small family farm nestled in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains near Watsonville, and kicks off with a tour by Tom Broz. Tom and his family founded the farm that also houses the nonprofit Live Earth Discovery Program , a program that provides local school children with hands-on education about organic and sustainable food systems. After the tour, guests will enjoy a reception featuring delicious local wines. I don't know the full line-up, but I do know that Heller Estate Organic Vineyards will be pouring. And for those who aren't imbibing, 3 of a Kind will be serving up their sparkling, seasonal libations. Brad Briske, who is currently r...
