Maple and Mustard-Glazed Chicken Thighs #FoodBloggerLove

Earlier this month I noticed a fun game posted in the online group #FoodBloggerLove. We claim the last blogger in the comment stream and add our own link. Then we have a week to post an inspired recipe. I was thrilled to claim Ellen of  Family Around the Table . She and I have been in several different blogging groups over the years, so I was familiar with her blog already. But it was great to really dive deep and get to know her better. Meet Ellen! You can find her: on the  web , on  Facebook , on  Twitter , on  Instagram , and on  Pinterest . She is a freelance writer, recipe developer, and former correspondent for the Tampa Bay Times where she wrote a regular TASTE section feature as well as reviewed cookbooks for more than 15 years. And, regarding her blog name, she credits her mom, her kids, and her grandmother for the inspiration. She remembers her grandmother making fresh pasta for dinner, writing, "She was from Italy and a very good cook so...

I often substitute it into recipes that call for walnuts since two of my three say that walnuts make their tongues tingle.  In any case, you'll see pecans in D's Brown Butter Espresso Pecan Pie , Bourbon Pecan Pralines , Creole Cheese Ball , and Bacon Bulleit Brownies . Most of the time, for some reason, I've posted sweet pecan recipes. So, I dec...

Seared Albacore Loins Salad with San-J Tamari Dressing #sanjtamarilite #MomsMeet #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of  Moms Meet .  I received complimentary product for the purpose of review,  but all opinions are honest and they are my own.  This page may contain affiliate links. Growing up in a Filipino family, soy sauce was on the table at every family event. But, years ago, when my husband went gluten-free I had to be careful about that condiment. So, when I was offered the opportunity to do a product review and develop a recipe with a gluten-free tamari by San-J, I was excited! And, as an added bonus, this version also had half the sodium. Sweet. About San-J  In 1804, San-Jirushi, the founding company of San-J, started a tamari soy sauce and miso company in the Mie Prefecure on the Japanese island of Honshu. Nearly two centuries later, the first tamari brewery was built in Henrico, Virginia as San-J. Eight generations later, a member of the founding family is still continuing the tradition of quality w...

Creole Cheese Ball #13CajunBites

J told his dad that this was his favorite thing on the menu. I did the cheese ball part ahead of time, but he made the topping all by himself. And that is what made the dish! Ingredients  8 oz cream cheese, softened 1 t  Cajun seasoning 1 t Worcestershire sauce 1/2 t garlic powder 1/2 C butter 1/2 C organic dark brown sugar 2 t Worcestershire sauce 1 t dijon mustard 1-1/2 C coarsely chopped pecans Procedure  In a small mixing bowl, blend cream cheese, garlic powder, 1 t Worcestershire, and Cajun seasoning. I used a fork to fully incorporate the flavors. Shape into a 4-inch circle, about 1" thick. Place on serving plate, cover, and refrigerate until firm - at least a couple of hours. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, Worcestershire, mustard and pecans. Cook over low heat until the sugar is dissolved and everything is bubbling. Remove cheese ball from the fridge. Spoon pecan mixture over cheese ball. Serve ...

Improv Cooking Challenge: Mustard-Glazed Fingerlings and Duck Sausages

Welcome to September's  Improv Cooking Challenge  which is now headed up by Nichole of Cookaholic Wife . The idea: we are assigned two ingredients and are challenged to create a recipe with those two things. This month's chosen ingredients are two of my favorites: Sausage and Mustard. I thought about recreating the Sausagefest we attended a few years ago in Santa Cruz. It was a veritable smorgasbord of sausage, mustard, and beer (for the talls - the smalls had horchata!!). But time was short, so braising sausages from a favorite purveyor, D'Artagnan Gourmet Foods , and glazing fingerling potatoes with mustard in the oven was a quick and delicious dinner. You can see D'Artangnan's sausage selection: here . I have tried them all, but their Duck and Armagnac Sausage is our favorite! And here's the line-up for the rest of the year. Stay tuned...
