Triple Nut Butter Bourbon Cookies

This is how inspiration works in my kitchen. Last night, it resulted in these cookies. I was dubious that the ingredients would actually result in a cookie, but they did! One of my best friends emailed me this photo. Another one of his friends had scribbled this down at swim practice. The only words in the email: "If you want to try…they are soooooo goooooooood!!!" Okay. Sold. So, I went to the website she references and found a slightly different recipe . Then, because I can't follow a recipe to save my life - well, I probably could to save my life - I slightly adapted it. I used three different kinds of nut butter, swapped out the vanilla for bourbon, and added hemp seeds. Ingredients 1/2 C bourbon pecan peanut butter (I bought mine at Mouth ) 1/2 C raw almond butter 1/2 C raw peanut butter 1/2 C honey (I used pine honey) 1 T bourbon 2 eggs, room temperature ½ t baking soda 2 T hemp seeds 1 T instant coffee 1/3 C semi-sweet chocolate chips ...

SRC Reveal: Indian-Style Meatballs

It's time for Group B's March 2016 for the  Secret Recipe Club . This month I was assigned to  The Hobo Kitchen   which is written by Ellie. Ellie was born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas and lived there until she was 16.  She moved to the United States in the late 90s and has been here ever since.  As the name of her blog suggests, she happily resides in Hoboken, NJ. When she first started blogging in 2008, she blogged at The Bitchin' Kitchin', but rebranded and The Hobo Kitchen was born. You can follow her on social media: on Facebook   and on  Twitter . When I started to delve into her recipe index, I was tickled to see three categories of cupcakes. Three. Seriously. Boozy, Savory, and Sweet. That's a girl after my own foodie heart. I looked at her Bahamian recipes;  Peas 'n' Rice , Sweet Potato Mallow , and Fire Engine   all called my name. But, we love Indian flavors in our household, so her Indian-Style Meatballs won ...

Savory Hemp Seed Pesto Truffles #FreshTastyValentines #sponsor #giveaway

I love making little savory truffles. You can't go wrong with cheese, right?! With some help from #FreshTastyValentines event sponsors -  Bob's Red Mill   and   Gourmet Garden  - these were super easy to make. Normally I make pesto in the blender, but because the  Gourmet Garden  pastes are ready-to-go, I just squeezed the pastes into a bowl and stirred. So. Easy. Ingredients Hemp Seed Pesto 3 T basil paste  (I used basil paste from  Gourmet Garden ) 1 T lightly dried basil  (I used lightly dried basil from  Gourmet Garden ) 1 T garlic paste  (I used garlic paste from  Gourmet Garden ) 1/4 C hemp seed hearts (I used Bob's Red Mill ) 1/4 C grated parmesan juice from 1 organic lemon (I used Meyer lemon because we have a tree in our backyard) olive oil, as needed Savory Truffles 4 ounces chevre 1 T hemp seed pesto 1 to 2 T lightly dried basil  (I used lightly dried basil from  Gourmet Garden ) ...

This month's BreadBakers' theme is Ancient Grains, hosted by Robin at A Shaggy Dough Story . A Little Green and a Little Sting Smoothie {Detox}

Just more proof that I really can't follow a recipe to save my life. I had written down a "recipe" for a green smoothie called 'The Stinger' from my 21-Day Detox group (read about my Detox and Team Level Zero Training plans). Then I made the smoothie. When I looked back at my scribbles, I wasn't even close. Whoops. But this left four empty glasses and requests for seconds. Winner! I have made a variation of this every morning this week. By 'variation' I mean: I might use different greens, different herb, or different fruit. But the proportions are the same. Oh, well...I don't even follow my own recipe very well! Ingredients 2 C unsweetened coconut water 1/2 to 3/4 C baby spinach 1 C green tipped banana, cut 1 C organic frozen rhubarb 1 C cucumber, cut and peeled if peel is bitter 1/2 jalapeno, seeds intact 1/4 C fresh mint juice from 1 organic lemon (we have a Meyer lemon tree, so I use those) 1 T hemp seeds Procedure Place ...

Granola Bars à la A.B. (that's Alton Brown)

Have I mentioned my boys' (yes, all three of them!) recent obsession with Alton Brown's show Good Eats??  They watch it on Netflix and, honestly, I'm impressed with his ability to inspire my crew into the kitchen. My husband actually set foot in the kitchen and made A.B.'s Mint Julep ! They were all watching an episode that included granola bars and protein bars and asked, "Can we try?" Of course! I'm always looking for ways to eliminate packaged and processed foods from my shopping routine. Homemade granola bars seemed a perfect project as we head back to school this week. adapted from Alton Brown's Granola Bars recipe: here My husband is doing a gluten-free and dairy-free experiment, so I skipped the wheat germ, opting for flaxseed meal. I added in chia seeds and hemp seeds. I also subbed in olive oil for the butter. But I stayed true to the original process and will be making this weekly, I think. Ingredients 2 C old-fashion...

SRC Reveal: Creamy Millet Porridge

It's time for Group B's July 2015  Secret Recipe Club   reveal. This month I was assigned to  Fit Mama Real Food   which is written by Heather. She's wife to Jacob, mom to Hunter and Zoe, real food lover, crazy crafter, and group fitness instructor. And she has some really delicious looking recipes. I am definitely going to try her Crusty No Knead Dutch Oven Bread   (I am all about no-knead breads!), Chicken Kebab Salad , Pomegranate and Almond Butter Deep Dark Chocolate Brownie . But, for this month's SRC reveal, I decided to make Heather's  Creamy Millet Porridge . Serendipitously, I had just ordered some grains from Bob's Red Mill when I found Heather's recipe. And millet was in my order! Given that I've never cooked with millet - and really no idea what I wanted to do with it when I placed the order at  Bob's Red Mill  - this was the perfect introduction to it! In case you're unfamiliar, millet is an ancient grain that has...
