Franken-Mochi

Since we stayed on the beach longer than I had planned, I didn't have enough time make a dessert to end  Nonna's Seafood Boil , for our Mothers' Day lunch. I picked up some mochi instead. We had four different flavors, seven people, and only two mochi allowed per serving. The boys were determined to let everyone taste each flavor without exceeding the serving allotment.  So, they sliced... ...and they squished. The result: Franken-Mochi. Nonna and I really enjoyed the melding of the flavors. And it's oddly photogenic.

Sweet Nonna's Seafood Boil

Remember when I hosted Sweethearts' Seafood Boil for Valentines' Day ?? Well, my mom teased that she liked seafood boils...and where was her invitation? So, when we were talking about our Mothers' Day celebration, I suggested a shrimp boil. She was excited. I loved that it was easy and didn't require too much prep. A note on the recipe title. We joke that she was a mean Mommy, but she's a sweet Nonna. She assures the boys, "It's okay that your mom is mean. She'll be a sweet nonna.' And on that note, I submitted a photo our local newspaper for a Mothers' Day photo contest. My caption: Mean Mommy, Sweet Nonna. I won...well, I won one of the many prizes. But Nonna was so tickled to see her photo, with the boys from last Mothers' Day, in the newspaper this morning. By the time we got to her house this afternoon, she had clipped it out and framed it. La Vie en Rose for #SundaySupper

Happy Mothers' Day to all!! Whether your child is young, old, or even a fur-baby, we're celebrating that often thankless act of nurturing, mothering, and loving. Welcome to my first time hosting #SundaySupper. Special shout out of gratitude to Renee of Magnolia Days for updating the links so I didn't have to set my alarm for 2:45am. Thank you, thank you. Before I became a mom, I celebrated Mothers' Day with my mom, my grandmothers, and numerous aunts. But - it wasn't until I had R - that I realized: Mothers' Day is the most important holiday of the year. Totally my opinion, but that's what I think now. I certainly feel that it's more important that my birthday. Why?  I asked myself the other day. Motherhood is, bar none, the toughest job I've ever had. It's also the most rewarding, but it's ever in flux. Just when you think you have it figured out, it changes. They change. You change. Becoming a mom has certainly made me more f...
