Seared Summer Squash Topped with Fresh Corn Salad

Inspired by the CSA box that David of Cooking Chat received last week - in conjunction with the podcast we recorded ahead of the Wine Pairing Weekend event on Saturday, August 13th - I made this dish to highlight his shares of summer squash, fresh corn, and cherry tomatoes. With summer produce, it's so fresh that I try not do too much to it. In this case, I seared thick slices of summer squash - zucchini in my case, from one of my CSA farms - and topped it with a fresh salad made with raw corn kernels, ripe cherry tomatoes, and sea beans which add a beautiful burst of salinity. It took an incredible amount of restraint to not just eat all the cherry tomatoes. I love popping them like candy. Truth be told: a fair amount went straight into my mouth while I made this recipe! Ingredients serves 4 Seared Squash 2 large zucchini or squash sliced into thick coins salt and pepper olive oil Also needed: griddle or skillet Corn Salad 1-1/2 cups fresh corn kernels  1 cup diced cherry...

A Salad for Saul #MoviesandMunchies

This month several of the #FoodNFlix bloggers are migrating over to a new group called #MoviesandMunchies. Amy of Amy's Cooking Adventures is leading the charge for our inaugural month. You can read Amy's invitation:  here . She asked us to watch Ocean's Eleven . I can't even begin to imagine how many times my family and I have seen that movie. We debate around the table which of the movies we like best: Oceans Eleven, Ocean's Twelve, or Ocean's Thirteen. I can tell you that we only watched Ocean's Eight  one time and we have never seen the original Ocean's Eleven. We might have to track that one down soon. The one we watched is Steven Soderbergh's remake, a slick heist flick with tons of A-list actors including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and Matt Damon along with Hollywood veterans Andy Garcia, Elliot Gould, and Carl Reiner. Here's a brief summary: Danny Ocean (played by Clooney) decides to rob three Las Vegas casinos with the he...

Farro, Barley, and Quinoa - Oh, My! - Six Easy Grain Bowl Salads #CulinaryCam

These grain bowl salads are the perfect Autumn side dish or main dish. And I love that they are so, so simple to assemble! Here are six variations using three different grains - farro, barley, and quinoa. But use whatever grains you have. These would be just as tasty with rice, freekah, or even buckwheat! You can watch the process on the CulinaryCam YouTube channel ...or right here! Ingredients are listed below for each bowl. But, as always,  I urge you to just be creative and use what you have. I love how easy these are to customize with whatever ingredients I have on-hand. They are colorful, toothy, and tasty. If you are local to me, I picked up all of the pantry items at The Quail & Olive in Carmel Valley. Anni always has great pantry items whose producers have great stories and make quality items. It's always a treat to go there and get inspired. Simple Crunch Quinoa Bowl 2 cups cooked quinoa 1/2 cup sliced purple cabbage 1/4 cup chopped celery 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper...

The prompt was to: Have some fun with seafood, use the frozen cooked shrimp, the salmon or tuna in a pouch or the tinned fish or other seafood.
