Dragon fruits look really cool. Here's a brief introduction to the dragon fruit . I received several dragon fruit from Melissa's Produce* in preparation for an upcoming #FreakyFruitsFriday event. Starting this Friday - and for two subsequent Fridays - a group of bloggers will be sharing posts that utilize the 'Freaky Fruits' line from Melissa's. Reviews at my table are usually mixed. "They are cool looking, but they don't taste like anything really." That sentiment seemed to be mirrored by several of my friends. After I posted a photo of them, I got: Well there’s another fruit I’ve never tasted in my life—gonna have to go get one and check it out. ...

Spicy Prawn and Freaky Fruits Noodle Salad #FreakyFruitsFriday #MelissasProduce #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of  Melissa's Produce . I received complimentary product for the purpose of review and recipe development, but all opinions are honest and they are my own.  This page may contain affiliate links. Last Halloween I noticed that  Melissa's Produce   had a section on their website for ' Freaky Fruits .' I really wanted to have some of the other Festive Foodies to join me in an event this year featuring those unique fruits. So, I reached out to my contacts at Melissa's Produce to see if they would want to sponsor the event. And they did! As the produce boxes started arriving, I realized that we had waaaaaaaay more produce than I could feature in just two Fridays in October. So, I decided that I would create some additional recipes and call it 'recipe testing.' The boys helped me brainstorm some ideas. You'll see most of these on the blog in the next month. But today is the group's first offici...

Vanilla-Macerated Dragonfruit Shortcake #RecipeTesting #FreakyFruitsFriday #MelissasProduce #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of  Melissa's Produce . I received complimentary product for the purpose of review and recipe development, but all opinions are honest and they are my own.  This page may contain affiliate links. You can read in my recipe post - Passionfruit-Vanilla Panna Cotta - how  Melissa's Produce   ended up sending a selection of their ' Freaky Fruits ' to me and some of my Festive Foodies pals. And, because there was just too much goodness to fit into a two-day event, I am sharing some bonus recipes as I recipe test for October's #FreakyFruitsFriday. Dragonfruit Dragonfruit grows on a vining cactus and has a vibrantly colored rind that houses a juicy flesh flecked with tiny, edible black seeds. The fruit is similar in texture to a cantaloupe or a kiwi; its flavor runs the gamut from sweet to tart to virtually non-existent. I prefer ones that are somewhere in between the first two. But, honestly, I haven't...

Dragonfruit, Mango, Jicama, & Corn Salad for #thebookclubcookbookCC

Here we are at May's #thebookclubcookbookCC event. It's hard to believe that we only have two more months in this year-long journey to explore - and cook from -  The Book Club Cookbook, Revised Edition: Recipes and Food for Thought from Your Book Club's Favorite Books and Authors  by Judy Gelman and Vicki Levy Krupp.* Judy, Vicki, and their publisher,  Tarcher-Penguin ,  have provided the hosting bloggers with copies of the book plus copies to giveaway each month of the project. Woohoo. Incredibly generous. This month Danielle at  Mostly Food and Crafts  along with Wendy at  A Day in the Life on the Farm  selected  Love in the Time of Cholera  by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.** Click to read  Wendy's invitation . She shared the recipe for Mojitos, but invited us to find inspiration in any of the pages. Believe it or not, I once created an entire dinner party around the Mojito. I made a Cuban feast for one of my best f...
