CSA-Inspired: Whole Roasted Rockfish with Tomatillo Sauce + Seabold Cellars' 2021 Siletto Aligoté #CookLocalEatLocal #WinePW

This month the Wine Pairing Weekend Bloggers are taking a CSA Challenge and pairing produce from a local, organic farm - either through a CSA subscription or a farmers' market stand - with a bottle of wine. I am hosting the group this month; you can read my invitation  here .  Also this month, actually, this week, I was a guest on the  Cook Local, Eat Local podcast  hosted by the Wine Pairing Weekend's founder David Crowley of  Cooking Chat . The episode went live today and you can listen to it here .  We talked about what was in his CSA share last week, some recipes I would make with the veggies, and a wine pairing for the dishes. I can't wait to see what the other #WinePW bloggers share for this event. If you are reading this early enough, feel free to jump in on our live Twitter chat on Saturday, August 13th at 8am Pacific. Follow the hashtag #WinePW and be sure to add it to anything you tweet so we can see it. Here's the group's line-up... A Summer Harv...

The Kitchen Elves' Senegalese-Style Gumbo #EattheWorld

It's hard to believe that it's almost the middle of April...and we, at least here in California, have been on shelter-in-place orders for almost a month. Nothing like time on my hands - thank you, shelter-in-place orders! - to get me going back through my drafts folder to update and publish posts! Thankfully one of those posts fit perfectly with this month's #EattheWorld challenge. I love when that happens. You'll just have to ignore the fact that the kids are about 4 or 5  years younger in these photos. Welcome to our April #EattheWorld project, being spearheaded by Evelyne of  CulturEatz . Here's  her challenge . This month she said, "This month our destination is Senegal, a nation with a rich history of traditional African culture and French influence." Before we get to my recipe, here are the others' Senegal recipes Amy’s Cooking Adventures: Café Touba (Senegalese Spiced Coffee)   Culinary Adventures with Camilla: The Kitchen Elves...

Whole Vermillion Snapper #VigiliaDiNatale #FishFridayFoodies

This month, the Fish Friday Foodies, with Karen of  Karen's Kitchen Stories , is serving up a virtual  La Vigilia  which is short for  La  Vigilia di Natale . You can read more about that in my round-up I'm sharing for the event at the end of the week. But this is what I am offering as my third (meaty fish) course. I love serving - and being served - a whole fish. Head, tail, fins, eyeballs, and all. Case in point... Braised Bee Line Snappers with Shaved Truffles Whole Roasted Bream with Ginger-Tamarind Sauce Masgouf We recently went to one of my favorite restaurants for our company holiday dinner and Pia and I both honed in on the whole fish option! This was a black cod flash fried with fennel, caper, and all sorts of deliciousness going on. Some of our co-workers asked us to kindly face its eyes away from them. Ha. Fine. Like Chef Brad Briske of HOME Soquel , I added layers of flavor in this roasted fish, including earthy fennel a...

Whole Vermilion Snapper with Fennel and Blood Oranges #FreakyFruitsFriday #MelissasProduce #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of  Melissa's Produce . I received complimentary product for the purpose of review and recipe development, but all opinions are honest and they are my own.  This page may contain affiliate links. You can read more about this #FreakyFruitsFriday challenge in my Spicy Prawn and Freaky Fruits Noodle Salad  recipe post from last Friday. But the Enthusiastic Kitchen Elf could not be swayed from his idea of roasting a whole fish with the blood oranges. Okay, fine. Before I get to our recipe, though, please see the list of the other creations today...
