Sugar by Any Other Name

For years I've been screaming about reading labels. Both my kids read labels. My husband is less vigilant, but he also doesn't do a whole lot of food shopping. So, as we prepare to launch into a sugar detox in January, I thought I'd write some posts about this journey. The first thing is this: just because it doesn't read 'sugar' doesn't mean that it doesn't have added sugar. Sugar has aliases. Seriously. A good rule of thumb is to look for any words that end in -ose. Keep an eye out for any ingredient with the word 'syrup'.
