Chicken Tagine with Preserved Lemons and Olives #SpicesoftheSouk #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of  Le Creuset . All opinions are my own. Last term, I taught a class about rice dishes from around the world and had approached my contact at Le Creuset about getting a tagine for when we, by tabletop, traveled to Morocco. Yes! She said 'yes.' Then the final week of my class was canceled and I never got a chance to use the pot. I was guilt-ridden. So, I signed up to teach another six-week class and made sure that I used the tagine during the second week of class...just to make sure we didn't have another scheduling snafu. So, I am finally using the tagine as I said I would: to teach kids to cook! Tagine A tajine or tagine is a Maghrebi dish named after the earthenware pot in which it is cooked. So, it refers to both the cooking vessel and the resulting food; it is also called a maraq/marqa in North Africa and the Middle East. Mentions of the tagine date back to Harun al-Rashid who was a rule...

Cracked Freekeh Pilaf Breakfast Bowl #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Bob's Red Mill . I received complimentary product for the purpose of recipe development, but all opinions are honest and they are my own.  This page may contain affiliate links. We have decided to detox from sugar. I shouldn't laugh, but Jake came out yesterday morning and said, "We have a major problem." Then he proceeded to tell me that his so-called 'fat pants' were tight. I tried not to laugh and used it as an opportunity to get him to give up, or at least cut waaaay back on, sugar.  So, this morning, instead of pancakes with maple syrup - or some other sugary breakfast - I decided to try my hand at a breakfast bowl made with whole grains, greens, and savory yogurt. I'll admit: I got a few groans, but I liked it! And they'll adjust. What the Freekeh? You may be asking yourself, "What in the world is freekeh?" As part of a shipment for a grains around the world...

Gluten-Free Rombi with Prawns and Zucchini Sauce #homemadepastamadesimple #ad

I've followed the blog Manu's Menu for several years. So, when Manu posted that she was looking for a few bloggers to test recipes and post a review of her upcoming cookbook, I was definitely game. She grew up in Italy and I've always found her recipes like a homecoming of sorts. I miss Rome, especially when I visit local farmers' markets and make homemade pasta. The first recipe I tried was her Prawn and Zucchini sauce. It was so easy, delicate, and delicious. But, as it was a weeknight, I didn't have time to try one of her pasta recipes. This past weekend, on a leisurely afternoon, I decided to make the same sauce and use it with one of her hand-rolled pastas.  D and I had just gone to a farmers' market and picked up fresh summer squash and fresh squash blossoms. You can read all about that adventure here . I emailed Manu and told her I was thrilled to have a gluten-free pasta recipe to try. She cautioned that the gluten-free dough is...

Family Date Night: A Recipe for the BEST Christmas Gift Ever #sponsor

This sponsored post is written by me on behalf of UncommonGoods . All opinions are my own.  Weaving tales with Rory's Story Cubes from UncommonGoods Do you love the holidays? Or do they inspire stress-induced cold sweats?! For me, I'll be completely candid - there's a little of both all rolled together. Delight and dread. That's not the most festive combination, I know. But here's what I mean... The holidays are a time to pause, unplug, and just be with loved ones. They are a time to cuddle up with mugs of hot chocolate while you watch a favorite movie with the kids, construct gingerbread mansions, and host festive dinner parties with friends. That's what I adore about the holidays. But the holidays are also, inevitably, a time when school and work deadlines brutally collide with cookie decorating parties, cocktail soirees, end-of-the-year fundraisers, and more. The biggest question that looms in my mind at this time of year is always: what ...
