Roasted Hatch Chile Sunrise #MoviesandMunchies

This month, Wendy of A Day in the Life on the Farm is hosting our new Movies and Munchies blogging group; she invited us to watch  Off the Menu . Read her invitation here . I had watched it during one of my rom-com waves throughout the pandemic. Thank goodness for Netflix...it kept me sane many, many days. But I happily watched it again, this time with foodie glasses on. D groaned when it started, "Mom, haven't you watched this already?"  Yes.  "Then, why are you watching it again? Don't tell me...it's for one of your groups!"  Yes, again. On the Screen This movie is a formulaic rom-com with lots of gorgeous food mixed in. Formula or not, it's a fun way to spend a couple of hours. I'm just going to say  clichéd, but enjoyable. We meet Joel Flanagan whose family dynasty is a chain of fast-food Mexican restaurants. Though he is much more interested in training for a triathlon, he grudgingly participates in board meetings for Tortilla Hut. At one o...

Ensalada de Atún y Pimientos #FishFridayFoodies

It's time for Fish Friday Foodies' June 2021  event. W e are a group of seafood-loving bloggers, rallied by Wendy of  A Day in the Life on the Farm , to   share fish and seafood recipes on the third Friday of the month.  This month, we are looking at seafood shortcuts. The prompt was to: Have some fun with seafood, use the frozen cooked shrimp, the salmon or tuna in a pouch or the tinned fish or other seafood. I'm all about shortcuts, especially during summer months when I'd rather be outside enjoying the sunshine than in the kitchen. Here's to timesavers I cannot wait to try these recipes... Roasted Trout with Aji Dulce Peppers and Baby Potatoes + 2018 Bodegas Avancia Cuvée de O Godello #Galicia #WorldWineTravel

Last month the #WorldWineTravel bloggers took a virtual trip to Rías Baixas. You can read my post: Sopa de Cebolla + 2020 Fillaboa Albariño . But within Galicia are a total of five Denominacións de Orixe (DO): Monterrei, Rías Baixas, Ribeira Sacra, Ribeiro, and Valdeorras. And I wanted to do a little deeper dive into some of the other DOs. In the Glass Valdeorras was named for the extensive gold mining that the Romans did in the area. Val-de-Oras is roughly 'valley of gold' in Latin and it is home to two of  Spain's indigenous grapes: Godello and Mencía. Bodegas Avancia lies in the mountains of Valdeorras which has predominantly slate soils. The estate is small - less than 25 acres - with the grapes being dry-farmed and cultivated organically.  Jorge Ordóñez specializes in working with the Godello grape which is native to northwest Spain. Though DNA profiling of the grape says it is genetically identical to the Portuguese  grape called Gouveio which grows througho...

Provençal Vegetable Tian #WorldVeganDay

Normally, I turn these ingredients - eggplant, zucchini, bell peppers, tomaotes - into ratatouille which, my version at least, is very fast and very loose. Here's one I did with the kids at school: click here . It's a veritable celebration of a garden's bounty...all tossed together in a pot. But for World Vegan Day with Valentina, of The Baking Fairy , at the helm, I wanted to try something a little bit different for her event. Here are the groups' offerings... Aloo Gobhi Masala (Indian Spiced Potatoes and Cauliflower) by Food Trails Black Bean & Pineapple Tacos by Kate’s Recipe Box Provençal Vegetable Tian by Culinary Adventures with Camilla Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Apples and Onions by A Day In The Life On The Farm Roasted Root Vegetables by The Spiffy Cookie Vegan Eggnog by The Urben Life Vegan Pineapple Tofu Fried Rice by The Baking Fairy Provençal Vegetable Tian Now this looks like the dish that was called ratatouille in the movie...

Morels, Meat, and Murrieta's Well 2016 Merlot #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me in conjunction with a virtual wine tasting event hosted by  Snooth for Murrieta's Well Winery.  Wine samples were provided for this post and this page may contain affiliate links. Last summer I participated in a virtual tasting with wines from Murrieta's Well*. You can read about that  here . So, when my contact at Snooth asked if I wanted to participate this round, I was quick to reply 'yes'. This week, I'll log in and chat with wine enthusiasts around the country about a set of four wines from Murrieta's. Can't wait! So far, I've paired the 2018 Dry OrangeMuscat with Sweet Potato Risotto and th e 2018 Dry Rosé with Petrale Sole Ceviche . In My Glass Next on my list to try was the 2016 Merlot from Murrieta's Well. Retailing at $46, this wine was a powerhouse that deserves that price point, in my opinion. A blend of 95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has an opulent mo...

Crispy Tortilla Bean Soup #PrettySimpleCooking

Excerpted from A Couple Cooks |  Pretty Simple Cooking: 100 Delicious Vegetarian Recipes to Make You Fall in Love with Real Food  by Sonja Overhiser and Alex Overhiser. Copyright © 2018. Available from Da Capo Lifelong Books, an imprint of Perseus Books, LLC, a subsidiary of Hachette Book Group, Inc. It's soup season! And the weather definitely took a turn towards the chilly side as soon as September 21st arrived. Funny how that works. Just yesterday I went to work with a scarf and boots! Okay, no comment on the lack of make-up, please. Moisturizer with sunscreen is about all that I manage most days. This is just to show you that Fall has hit on the central coast of California. So, as we head into Fall - and Sonja and Alex have launched their monthly Pretty Simple Cooking Club - I was excited by their pick of Chipotle Black Bean Soup that appears on pg. 175 of their cookbook  A Couple Cooks - Pretty Simple Cooking: 100 Delicious Vegetarian Recipes to Make You ...
