Peach Cobbler + Epitaph for a Peach #FoodieReads

Wendy from A Day in the Life on the Farm is hosting the Festive Foodies in an event all about peaches. She wrote: "When Peaches are in season I buy them by the bushel.   There is nothing better than a tree ripened peach.   But then what do you do with them all.   Share your favorite peach recipe with me....sweet or savory...preserved or fresh....the possibilities are endless." So, hopefully you, too, will be inspired to grab some summer peaches and create some deliciousness. Here's what the bloggers are sharing to inspire you... Flaming Peach Pie #6thAnnualPieathalon #EatPie

Last year this was a new-to-me event. I participated in the 5th Annual Pieathalon which was coordinated by Emily of  Dinner is Served 1972 . And it was a ton of fun. So, when she emailed to see if I were interested in participating in the 6th annual pieathalon, I was in! Since I'm still new to this whole Pieathalon thing, I'll share the rules with my readers.  1. Pick a pie recipe from a pre-1990 cookbook. 2. Email it to Emily. 3. She assigns it randomly to another pieathlete. 4. We bake. 5. We post. 6. We share. Today's the day! Get ready for some Before the fun and games started last year, I made a  Foraged Huckleberry Pie  just to get my pie-making brain into gear. And it is definitely a peachy time of year because last year I was assigned a Peaches and Cream Tart . This year I received the challenge of the Flaming Peach Pie from Greg at Recipes for Rebels . The pie recipe I submitted was Hawaiian Banana Pie from the 1961 Betty Cro...

Peaches and Cream Tart #5thAnnualPieathalon #EatPie

This is a new-to-me event: the 5th Annual Pieathalon which is hosted by Emily of Dinner is Served 1972 . And I'm looking forward to seeing how Kelli, of Kelli's Kitchen , did with my Chocolate Mousse Pie. She tagged me when she was baking, telling me: "It's only 1:30 in the afternoon on a Sunday and I'm a bit tipsy trying to follow a somewhat complicated recipe --- and it's YOUR fault!! Guess who got your pie recipe?!?!? Woo Hoo! :) I think this is going to be delicious!!" I'm glad she had a positive attitude about the adventure. Since I'm new to this whole Pieathalon thing, I'll share the rules with my readers.  1. Pick a pie recipe from a pre-1990 cookbook. 2. Email it to Emily. 3. She assigns it randomly to another pieathlete. 4. We bake. 5. We post. 6. We share. Before the fun and games started, I made a Foraged Huckleberry Pie just to get my pie-making brain into gear. The boys did not object. I sent off t...

Off-to-High-School Crêpes

So, I guess back-to-school crêpes are a thing. At least in my house. And, it's no mystery why my kids think they live in a restaurant. Here was our conversation at Trader Joe's last night... D: Since it's my first day of high school, may I request some food? C: Sure. D: I would like crêpes for breakfast. R: - with fresh peaches and whipped cream! D: Yes! With fresh peaches and whipped cream!! R: And BLTs for lunch...I get to request, too, right? D: And rack of lamb rubbed with Middle Eastern spices for dinner. HAPPY BACK TO SCHOOL!! And I was really tickled to see a comment from a high school friend that they make my recipe every week. She wrote, "Yep, all true. Even the dogs look forward to Crêpe Monday! I've shared your recipe with so many people because so easy and great." I love that! Thanks, Annie. The crêpe part stays the same...mostly. I did add in a few more spices this time. The fillings change based on what I have...

Fuss-Free and Fabulous Vegetarian Recipes + Stone Fruit Quinoa Slaw #FoodieReads

One of the great things about being part of the food blogging world: Every once in awhile, a blogger that I know and love publishes a cookbook. That's the case for Susan of The Wimpy Vegetarian . Susan and I have posted in #SundaySupper together as well as #BreadBakers and #SRC (Secret Recipe Club) when that was still active. So, when I saw that she was writing a cookbook, I offered to test some recipes for her. She didn't end up needing my help, but I immediately ordered a copy of her book - The Simply Vegetarian Cookbook: Fuss-Free Recipes Everyone Will Love by Susan Pridmore* - as soon as I was able. It was released at the end of July, so you can order it and get a copy for yourself. Fuss-Free and Fabulous The subtitle to Susan's cookbook is "Fuss-Free Recipes Everyone Will Love." She's too modest to do so, but she could have claimed "Fuss-Free and Fabulous Recipes...".  I found the organization of the book appealing in its simpl...
