Black Trumpet Flatbread + 2018 Cuda Ridge Merlot #MerlotME #WinePW #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf Cuda Ridge Wines, one of the #MerlotMe event sponsors.  Complimentary wine was provided for this post and this page may contain affiliate links.  However, all opinions expressed here are my own. The month of Merlot begins now! When #MerlotME rolls around, I always have a nice selection of bottles to pair. And since I have always loved pairing mushrooms with Merlot - and because my mushroom-averse child is off at college and unable to ruin my mushroom dishes with his eye-rolling and complaining - I decided to put mushrooms on the tables as often as I'd like. Here continues my parade of Merlot + Mushroom pairings for #MerlotME 2022! I have already shared my Three Mushroom Pâté + J. Lohr 2020 Los Osos Merlot . 2018 Cuda Ridge Merlot This year I received a bottle of Merlot from new-to-me Cuda Ridge Wines. And I was delighted to try a wine from Livermore Valley. Though it's not that far from where I am in California I rarely have win...

Let the month of Merlot commence! When #MerlotME rolls around, I always have a nice selection of bottles to pair. Because I have always loved pairing mushrooms with Merlot - and because my mushroom-averse child is off at college and unable to ruin my mushroom dishes with his eye-rolling and complaining - I decided to make a Mushroom Pâté with three different mushrooms to go with the 2020 J. Lohr Merlot from Paso Robles. Here begins my parade of Merlot + Mushroom pairings for #MerlotME 2022! J. Lohr 2020 Los Osos Merlot Though this wine is from the Paso Robles AVA, San Luis Obispo County, Jerry Lohr has ties to my neck of the woods. Lohn first planted grapes in Monterey's Arroyo Seco district in the 1970s. Then he saw potential in the Pa...

Cherry-Kissed Pairing: Maison Noir's Horseshoes and Handgrenades + Steaks in a Cherry Pan Sauce #WinePW

This month,  David from  Cooking Chat   picked the topic of Celebrating BIPOC Winemakers & Winery Owners for our February Wine Pairing Weekend blogging group. I'll be honest: when Nicole of  Somm's Table  picked the same theme last February, I had  no  idea what that even meant. BIPOC. The acronym BIPOC refers to "black, indigenous, and people of color."  After last year's event - and all of the other wine finds from my wine writing colleagues - I was inspired to track down several of these bottles for myself. You can read David's invitation  here   for this year's event and if you are reading this soon enough, feel free to join our live Twitter chat on Saturday, February 12th at 8am Pacific. Follow the hashtag #WinePW and be sure to add that to anything you tweet so we can see it. In the meantime, all of these posts should be live by chat time. Here's what the bloggers are sharing...  Wendy from A Day in the Life on the ...

L'Ecole's Columbia Valley Merlot This will be the first wine I'm sharing that wasn't really poured as part of a pairing. I was sent two Merlots from L'Ecole, both the same vintage: the  2018 Columbia Valley Merlot  (their Heritage label) and the 2018 Walla Walla (their Estate label). The Columbia Valley is blended from four different AVAs - Walla Walla Valley, Candy Mountain, White Bluffs (pending...

However, all opinions expressed here are my own.   It's October. Do you know what that means? It's the time of year when bottles of Merlot start arriving at my door for #MerlotMe. The Wine Pairing Weekend  - #WinePW - crew has been participating in this online celebration of the Merlot grape for the past five years. The MerlotMe  website  encourages wine lovers to "celebrate the greatness of Merlot throughout the month of October." So, we are. In addition, all of the #winePW bloggers were offered bottles of Merlot to try, taste, and pair for this event. Compliment...
