Mushroom-Less Strata and a Heart-Warming Screwball Holiday Dram-edy #FoodNFlix

After last month's assignment of Friendsgiving  - that I couldn't get through - I was not excited about the pick for this month's Food'n'Flix . Holiday movies can either go very wrong or very right for me. But after I read Eliot's Eats' invitation for The Family Stone  -  and after my kids made me watch Home Alone and Home Alone 2 -  I eagerly started streaming this month's Food'N'Flix pick online.  You still have half a month to join the fun, if you're inclined. Spoiler alert: this landed in the 'love' holiday movie category for me. I will happily add this to my annual watch list! On the Screen The Family Stone  invites you in to the eponymous family's holiday gathering. Adult children Amy (Rachel McAdams), Everett (Dermot Mulroney), Ben (Luke Wilson), Susannah (Elizabeth Reaser), and Thad (Tyrone Giordano) come home to celebrate Christmas with their parents Sybil (Diane Keaton) and Kelly (Craig T. Nelson). Okay, with that line-u...

Mote Pillo #FoodNFlix

This month the  Food'N'Flix  bloggers are watching  Friendsgiving . Our group's founder - Heather of All Roads Lead to the Kitchen - is on the roster for hosting, but I haven't seen her official invitation. And I'll just start with this: I couldn't get through this movie. I didn't watch more than about fifteen minutes before I turned it off and moved on to something else. It's just not my cup of tea.  I found it painfully unfunny with a dragging pace and one uncomfortable moment after another. As I said, I didn't make it through, but it did inspire me to make mote pillo , an Ecuadorian breakfast dish that Jeff makes for Molly. I had never heard of this dish, but it looked filling and delicious. It was! I researched and discovered that this is a traditional  hominy dish from the highlands region of Ecuador with the entire province of Azuay claiming it as their specialty. It is traditionally served with slices of queso fresco and black coffee. I serv...

Curry-Kissed Tater Tots #BakingBloggers

This month, Sue of  Palatable Pastime  told the Baking Bloggers that for October we were baking with potatoes.  "Let's whip up some potatoes in a recipe and slide them into an oven. Potatoes (of all types) can be incorporated into a baked dish or baked first and finished later. Just at some point potatoes are in the oven." I am grateful to have some new recipes to try. This is what the #BakingBloggers are sharing... Maple-Sweetened Overnight Oats, Three Ways #CulinaryCam #Sponsored

Complimentary product was provided  by The Quail & Olive  for this post and this page may contain affiliate links.  However, all opinions expressed here are my own. Of course I've heard of 'overnight' oats for years. But I had never tried them until we were visiting one of my best friends in Denmark over the Christmas holiday a couple of years ago. She made these beauties for us one morning. And I have been making them regularly ever since.  Overnight oats are so flexible and so simple. Seriously: six ingredients, five minutes, and four easy steps. Then they go into the fridge overnight and you have a  healthy, filling breakfast the next day. Because they are on our table regularly, we decided to make a video for our Culinary Cam YouTube channel. You can watch that video: here . You can make these with any kind of sweetener that you have, but I love to make ours with the Runamok Maple Syrup that I picked up from pantry section of local-to-me shop  The...

Eggnog Muffin Tops #MuffinMonday

Earlier in the year I saw a post from one of my favorite bloggers - Wendy at  A Day in the Life on the Farm  - and I realized that they've been having a muffin party for years without me. LOL. I emailed the host, Stacy of  Food Lust People Love  and got the scoop: "...last Monday of the month and no themes. We've been baking together since August 2015! Only one rule, you must use the muffin method (folding wet ingredients with dry - no creaming butter and sugar, etc.) to bake muffins." I've been happily joining in for months now. This month is the last Muffin Monday of 2020! Here's the muffin line-up... Popovers on the Patio #ShelterinPlaceBaking

Every morning this week, R has been requesting things for breakfast. I don't know if he's taking notes so that when he goes away to college, he can make these things on his own, or what? But Monday he wanted and helped with crêpes; yesterday it was breakfast tacos; today, he requested popovers. These are not difficult, so I don't know why I don't make these more often! Maybe it's because I love the look of glee when these come to the table. All three of my boys love popovers. Jake asked, "How much butter do you use?"  Not that much . "So, they're kinda healthy?"  I guess so. I added some ground spices and vanilla salt to this version. But you can use whatever spices and extracts you wish. I actually am out of vanilla extract, so I added a splash of Calvados (apple brandy) instead. This really is an incredibly flexible recipe to have in your Sunday brunch repertoire. He asked if you could make these in a different pan. I have ...

Glædelig Jul, Nisser, and Mormor Agnes’ Æbleskiver #EattheWorld

Welcome to our final 2019 post for our Eat the World project, being spearheaded by Evelyne of  CulturEatz . Here's  her challenge . This is definitely one of my favorite monthly projects. And so far this year, we've traveled by tabletop to Ethiopia , England , Georgia , Cambodia , Israel , Finland , Puerto Rico , Egypt , Ukraine , and Portugal . But, for the final installment, Evelyne just wrote: "This month we are doing a Christmas/holiday dish or sweet from around the world. Pick your own country, maybe from your ancestors or one you do not know what they serve during the holidays. Join us on December 10th, 2019 10 am with a holiday recipe."
