A Salad for Saul #MoviesandMunchies

This month several of the #FoodNFlix bloggers are migrating over to a new group called #MoviesandMunchies. Amy of Amy's Cooking Adventures is leading the charge for our inaugural month. You can read Amy's invitation:  here . She asked us to watch Ocean's Eleven . I can't even begin to imagine how many times my family and I have seen that movie. We debate around the table which of the movies we like best: Oceans Eleven, Ocean's Twelve, or Ocean's Thirteen. I can tell you that we only watched Ocean's Eight  one time and we have never seen the original Ocean's Eleven. We might have to track that one down soon. The one we watched is Steven Soderbergh's remake, a slick heist flick with tons of A-list actors including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and Matt Damon along with Hollywood veterans Andy Garcia, Elliot Gould, and Carl Reiner. Here's a brief summary: Danny Ocean (played by Clooney) decides to rob three Las Vegas casinos with the he...

Napa Valley's 2018 Frog's Leap 'Shale and Stone' Chardonnay + Chips and Guac #FoodNFlix

Today, I am sharing a recipe inspired by the movie Bottle Shock because  this month's  Food'N'Flix  is being hosted by Debra at  Eliot's Eats .  And her choice - and our assignment this month is -  Bottle Shock.  Read her announcement:  here . I have seen several movies about California wines and they have been hit and miss for me. I don't know if I'm more critical of how movie makers portray my home state, but I'm about fifty-fifty on whether or not I enjoy a movie about wines set here. For example, I despised  Sideways  and found  Wine Country  surprisingly serious (read my post  A Surprisingly Somber Chick Flick + a Quintessential NapaValley Floor Cab ); but I adored  A Walk In the Clouds  and made  Charred Grapes on a Cloud  for a #FoodNFlix post several years back. And  Bottle Shock  falls into the 'love' category.  I watched Bottle Shock  when it first came out in 2008 a...

Improv Cooking Challenge: Steak and Potato Nachos

Welcome to the February 2018 version of  Improv Cooking Challenge . This group is headed up by Nichole of  Cookaholic Wife . The idea behind Improv Cooking Challenge: we are assigned two ingredients and are challenged to create a recipe with those two things. This month's items: steak and potatoes. My meat-lovin' crew was so, so happy. And I am tardy in posting, but the link is still open, so I'm going for it. An InLinkz Link-up Steak and Potato Nachos I love making homemade potato chips in the oven. Chips are my downfall. Seriously. But, when I was thinking about this Improv Cooking Challenge, I pictured homemade chips with bits of tender, juicy steak. Yep...that was my plan for dinner. And it was a hit. Ingredients 4 to 5 Yukon gold potatoes, scrubbed and thinly sliced 1 pound skirt steak  olive oil 2 t sweet paprika, divided 2 t smoked paprika, divided 2 t ground cumin 2 T organic dark brown sugar zest from 1 organic lime ...
