A Prelude to a Tryst: Pasta Con Le Sarde #FoodNFlix

This month, for Food'N'Flix , Amy of Amy's Cooking Adventures is hosting Food'N'Flix a month after our online book group Lit Happens read the book on which the movie is based:  P.S. I Love You* . You can read her invitation here .  I enjoyed P. S. I Love You , the book, but I'm going to say something that I rarely say: I vastly preferred the movie.  There are marked differences between the book and the movie that almost make it a completely different story! For starters, movie Holly was much more likeable than book Holly. A Rom-Com with a Twist P.S. I Love You is a rom-com with a twist, namely that the love story involves a woman, Holly, and her now deceased husband, Gerry. The movie opens with a marital spat between Holly, played by Hilary Swank, and Gerry, played by Gerard Butler, as they bicker about something he said to her mother at dinner. Gerry : I'm sorry I said the wrong thing to your mother. God, I still get nervous around her. I still think, a...

Burrata with Anchovies

To celebrate the end of a successful school year, we took the boys to our favorite restaurant, La Balena . We've long been friends with the owners, Emanuele and Anna. And I love that I always come away inspired. One of the first dishes we tried was Burrata with Anchovies. So simple and yet so amazing. I think that's the way food should be. Well, most food. It lets the ingredients speak for themselves. And on the summer solstice, I recreated the dish for us. It's not a really a recipe. But I'll share it, in the hopes that it will inspire you to try it for yourself. Ingredients serves 4 as an appetizer 4 balls of burrata 4 anchovies, cured and packed in oil olive oil freshly ground salt freshly ground pepper toasted bread, optional (I served it without at home) Procedure Place burrata on a serving plate or platter. Top each burrata with an anchovy. Sprinkle with freshly ground salt and pepper. Drizzle with olive oil. Serve immediately.

I haven't been very good at participating, but this month, I couldn't resist.  Our theme for the month is: asparagus. And those are always the harbinger of Spring, for me. So, I jumped right in as Spring is my favorite season. The Asparagus Party Inlinkz Link Party Boquerones Asparagus Salad Simple salads are a mainstay of our Spring and Summertime meals. Fresh ingredients, some protein, a pop of flavor, and we're set. So, when I picked up some fresh boquerones - anchovies! - I knew I wanted to feature them in a salad. This isn't even really a recipe, but I hope it inspires you to mix and match some fresh produce and embrace the season. Ingredients serves 4 as a sidedish or 2 as an entree 1 pound asparagus, trimmed and blanched 4 C organic wild arugula 12 boquerones flake salt freshly gr...

Bagna Cauda-Bathed Egg Salad Toasts #KitchenMatrixCookingProject

Here we are at the third #KitchenMatrixCookingProject post for July. This month I picked the dishes with easy recipes to inspire some  al fresco  dinners. My family and I have been taking our meals outside often. On the weekends we have been eating every meal out there. And, during the week, dinners are served on the patio.  We love the fresh air and warmer than usual evenings.  It's a great way to spend a meal with those you love.  Earlier we shared  chicken wing recipes   and gazpacho recipes ; this week, I picked Hard Boiled Eggs + 12 Ways. You can read more about our project:  here . We'd love to have you join us.  The Other Eggy Offerings An InLinkz Link-up Bagna Cauda-Bathed Egg Salad Toasts Though I was intrigued by the pickled eggs (don't worry, I'll try those soon!) and we are fans of anything with curry, but I really wanted to share my favorite egg salad with bagna cauda-bathed toasts. ...
