Green Chile Cornbread Madeleines #BakingBloggers

This month, Sue of  Palatable Pastime  told the Baking Bloggers that for March we are dusting off our madeleine pans...and we learned that Wendy of A Day in the Life on the Farm didn't have one (but she bought one for this event) and Karen of Karen's Kitchen Stories has five pans! Well, I am somewhere in the middle there. I have a pan and I have used it. But I don't use it often enough. So I am grateful to have some new recipes to try. This is what the #BakingBloggers are sharing... Matcha Coconut MOffins #MuffinMonday

Last month, I saw a post from one of my favorite bloggers - Wendy at A Day in the Life on the Farm - and I realized that they've been having a muffin party for years without me. LOL. I emailed the host, Stacy of Food Lust People Love and got the scoop: "...last Monday of the month and no themes. We've been baking together since August 2015! Only one rule, you must use the muffin method (folding wet ingredients with dry - no creaming butter and sugar, etc.) to bake muffins." Oh, my goodness...is  that  the muffin rule? That makes total sense. But I had no idea. In my house we've always said that if it's 'naked' as in frosting-free, it's a muffin; if there's frosting, then it's a cupcake. Turns out there's more to it than that. In any case, I jumped in. This is my first month participating with the #MuffinMonday bloggers. Here's a little bit more info, since this is new-to-me... #MuffinMonday is a group of muffin loving ...

Blue Butterfly Pea Flower Gummy Brains #FoodNFlix

This month Kimberly, from  Coffee and Casseroles , is hosting this month's edition of #FoodNFlix. And she has asked us to post a recipe inspired by any Tim Burton movie. Read her invitation:  here . Burton's body of work is pretty vast and spans many years - from Pee-wee's Big Adventure  in 1985 to 2019's Dumbo.   We watched Beetlejuice  for #FoodNFlix in October 2016 when I posted Spooky Juice . I probably watched Edward Scissorhands when it originally came out; and I am certain that we watched Planet of the Apes  when it was released in 2001 because Jake's cousin was one of the apes! Still, I am not much of a Tim Burton fan. Or I guess I should say that I haven't seen many of his movies. But I was intrigued to start watching last month to prepare for this. Thankfully our local library has a healthy selection in the system and I was able to check out several DVDs - for free! I watched  Corpse Bride but didn't make any...

The Language of Flowers... and Doughnuts #FoodieReads

No books logged for my Foodie Reads Challenge   and it's already the third week of the month. What?!? it must be the end of the school year. It's not that I haven't been reading; I read every night. I just haven't finished any books this month.  Well, last night while the boys were working on a project with Jake, I picked up a book that I've had on my nightstand for months and settled under a blanket on a bean bag. The Language of Flowers  by Vanessa Diffenbaugh.* And I read it from start to finish before heading to bed. It turns out that it was written by someone I know...sort of. Well, I know her husband as he's the superintendent of our school district and we sit in meetings every month as the high school moves through its certification as an IB (International Baccalaureate) school. But I never put that together until I was staring at the cover and thought, "That's a fairly unusual last name. I wonder if they are related." They...

Mint Chocolate Madeleines #ChristmasCookies

December always means Christmas cookies. Lots and lots of Christmas cookies. I was excited to see that Ellen at  Family Around the Table  was organizing a week-long event surrounding cookies. She has also created a giveway from one of our event sponsors. More on that soon! For now, I hope you enjoy the recipes my fellow bloggers have shared to celebrate the cookie season. Get baking! Gluten-Free Rombi with Prawns and Zucchini Sauce #homemadepastamadesimple #ad

I've followed the blog Manu's Menu for several years. So, when Manu posted that she was looking for a few bloggers to test recipes and post a review of her upcoming cookbook, I was definitely game. She grew up in Italy and I've always found her recipes like a homecoming of sorts. I miss Rome, especially when I visit local farmers' markets and make homemade pasta. The first recipe I tried was her Prawn and Zucchini sauce. It was so easy, delicate, and delicious. But, as it was a weeknight, I didn't have time to try one of her pasta recipes. This past weekend, on a leisurely afternoon, I decided to make the same sauce and use it with one of her hand-rolled pastas.  D and I had just gone to a farmers' market and picked up fresh summer squash and fresh squash blossoms. You can read all about that adventure here . I emailed Manu and told her I was thrilled to have a gluten-free pasta recipe to try. She cautioned that the gluten-free dough is...
