A Living Legend + Panko-Crusted Abalone Over Green Tea Soba Noodles #FishFridayFoodies

It's time for Fish Friday Foodies' August event. W e are a group of seafood-loving bloggers, rallied by Wendy of  A Day in the Life on the Farm , to   share fish and seafood recipes on the third Friday of the month.  This month, Sue of  Palatable Pastime  is hosting as we share Japanese seafood recipes . She wrote: " We're posting Japanese fish and seafood recipes. Please note that cooked recipes are welcome and that these do not need to be only sushi or sashimi recipes, although raw recipes are welcome as well.  I find summer a very pleasant time to have Japanese as it suits well for both cold foods and grilled fish, among other things." Before I get to my post for the event. Here's the rest of the #FishFridayFoodies' offerings... Abalone Po' Boy #OurFamilyTable

Today the From Our Dinner Table blogging group members are sharing seafood recipes. Hosts Christie from A Kitchen Hoor's Adventures and Heather of Hezzi-D's Books and Cooks wrote, "Are you crazy for crabs? Addicted to Ahi? This event is for you! Whether you do a Fish Friday or give up meat for Lent we could all use a little more recipes from the sea." As residents of a seaside town and members of a community-supported fishery, seafood is common on our table. I am always happy to add new seafood recipes for my rotation. Abalone à la Meunière Over Potatoes + Albariño

Last week I purchased some extra abalone when I picked up my CSF (community-supported fishery) share. And though I tried to come up with a new way to preparing the abalone, my boys clambored for "the good way" of cooking it. I did switch it up by putting it on top of some roasted potatoes akin to a fish'n'chips kinda thing. But, really, why fix what's not broken, right? They like their abalone meunière-style, so that's what I made. Meunière is French for "miller's wife" and refers to both a method of preparation and a sauce; it's primarily used for fish. To cook something à la meunière means to cook it by first dredging it in flour. Before I get to my recipe, I want to share the wine with which I paired the dinner. ¡Salud! Friends from Spain gave me this bottle of Albariño when I had asked about the varietal. Albariño is a native Spanish grape grown mainly in Rías Baixas. As it's a region renowned for oysters, mussels...

Abalone: Out of the Shell and Into the Pan #FishFridayFoodies

It's time for Fish Friday Foodies' first 2018 event.  This is our two-year group anniversary!  We are a group of seafood-loving bloggers, rallied by Wendy of  A Day in the Life on the Farm , to   share fish and seafood recipes on the third Friday of the month. This is, easily, my favorite recipe sharing event of the month. I always come away with a list of recipes that I just have to try!  This month, I am hosting. I wrote: "Create and share a recipe with any kind of shellfish. Think soups, breaded and fried, sautéed, steamed, or even raw. If it has a shell, it's fair game!" The Rest of the Shelled Goodness An InLinkz Link-up Monterey Abalone I decided to write about one of my favorite shellfish: abalone! This shellfish took a circuitous route from native currency (yep...it was used as money) to culinary delicacy (do you know how much restaurants charge for abalone these days??). And in between it was exported to markets in China and Ja...

Chipped Abalone with Gochujang Dipping Sauce #CrazyIngredientChallenge

I love the idea behind the Crazy Ingredient Challenge (CIC). In the CIC, we are assigned two ingredients to cook and create. Kelly of  Passion Kneaded   is our fearless leader. So, here goes... May's Crazy In gredient Challenge = potato chips and soy sauce Several years ago, I covered a cooking class for  Edible Monterey Bay  that Chef Justin Cogley led at Aubergine called 'Monterey Bay Abalone.' Click to read my piece -  Abalone: Local, Delectable, and Not As Daunting as I Previously Imagined .  So, when I saw that our CSF (community supported fishery) share was abalone this week, I decided to do an adaptation of our  Meunière-Style Monterey Bay Abalone , adding a breading of crushed potato chips and serving it with an Asian-style dipping sauce. What a hit! Everyone asked for seconds. Ummm...sorry, we only got 6 abalone. Next time I'll order an extra package. Ingredients  serves 4 6 to 8 small abalone (...

A Vin de Pays d'Oc Chardonnay and an Edible Mollusc from Monterey #Winophiles

Here we are at the April 2017 event for The French Winophiles, a wine-swilling, food-loving group started by Christy of  Confessions of a Culinary Diva  and, now, jointly coordinated by Jill of  L'occasion   and Jeff of  Food Wine Click . This month, Lauren of The Swirling Dervish has asked us to get creative with a French wine and a food pairing from elsewhere. Here's Lauren's invitation:  here . If you are reading this early enough, we'll be chatting on Saturday, April 15th at 11am EDT. Join us on Twitter using the hashtag #Winophiles. Or come check out the stream later and try to join us next month. This month's topic definitely seems to fly in the face of the adage I often rely on: “what grows together, goes together.” When I pick a wine, I usually search for a recipe that hails from the same region. But, here we go on a cross-cultural adventure... The Rest of the Winophiles' Offerings... Martin from  Enofylz Wine Blog  pair...
