Cherry-Kissed Pairing: Maison Noir's Horseshoes and Handgrenades + Steaks in a Cherry Pan Sauce #WinePW

This month,  David from  Cooking Chat   picked the topic of Celebrating BIPOC Winemakers & Winery Owners for our February Wine Pairing Weekend blogging group. I'll be honest: when Nicole of  Somm's Table  picked the same theme last February, I had  no  idea what that even meant. BIPOC. The acronym BIPOC refers to "black, indigenous, and people of color."  After last year's event - and all of the other wine finds from my wine writing colleagues - I was inspired to track down several of these bottles for myself. You can read David's invitation  here   for this year's event and if you are reading this soon enough, feel free to join our live Twitter chat on Saturday, February 12th at 8am Pacific. Follow the hashtag #WinePW and be sure to add that to anything you tweet so we can see it. In the meantime, all of these posts should be live by chat time. Here's what the bloggers are sharing...  Wendy from A Day in the Life on the ...

Chicken Tagine with Merguez, Apricots, and Blood Oranges + 2017 Dineen Vineyards Viognier #Sponsored #WinePW

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Dineen Vineyards .  Complimentary wine was provided for this post and this page may contain affiliate links.  However, all opinions expressed here are my own.     Next month the Wine Pairing Weekend bloggers are working with different wineries to showcase the wines of Washington state's Yakima Valley. And I received a selection of wines from  Dineen Vineyards ,* including their  2017 Viognier .  I was able to spend some time on a Zoom call with Marissa Dineen, Owner, and Amanda Conley-Bagge, Dineen Vineyards' Tasting Room Manager. With the on-going pandemic and shelter-in-place orders, this seems to be a way we are all connecting. Obviously it's not the same as tasting wine with them in person, but it was so informative and so much fun. When Jake and I make it to the Yakima Valley, I will be stopping there for sure! I will share more information about the vineyards for the #WinePW event. For ...

Musings on Marriage, Moruno-Spiced Burgers, & L'Ecole's 2017 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of L'Ecole . Complimentary wine was provided for this post and this page may contain affiliate links. However, all opinions expressed here are my own.     This month kicks off a series of monthly posts that I'll be doing in collaboration with  L'Ecole Winery .* Once a month, I'll participate in a virtual tasting with their marketing manager, the winemaker, and the general manager. Then I'll post a pairing that I've created to go along with the wine. Some months I hope to share more than one pairing with one being posted on my  Culinary Cam YouTube  channel, such as the Savory Goat Cheese Truffles + L'Ecole's 2019 Sémillon video:  here . Musings on Marriage Under the wedding maple at Owen R. Cheatham Redwood Grove, Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park Musings on marriage in a wine pairing post , you ask?! Has she gone completely off the deep end? Well, perhaps. But it is Valentines' Day and during the ...

Supplì al Telefono + 2015 Dineen Vineyard Heritage Red Wine #WinePW

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Dineen Vineyards . Complimentary wine was provided for this post and this page may contain affiliate links. However, all opinions expressed here are my own.   I used to purchase  Supplì al Telefono  from my neighborhood  rosticceria  in Rome probably more often than I should admit. They're delicious and easy to eat while on the go. And I was always on the go in those days. Around other parts of Italy, they are called Arancini  or 'little oranges.' Supplì al Telefono , literally means  supplì  'to the phone.' Odd name, perhaps, until you think back to the days when phones had cords. Yes, younguns, phones used to have cords! Inside the supplì are molten bits of mozzarella cheese; when you bite into them and pull away, the melted cheese is long and stringy, resembling a telephone cord. Like this...  Supplì  is a great dish to use up leftover risotto. Use whatever risotto you ha...

Bunless Lamb Burgers + Northstar 2014 Merlot #MerlotMe #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Northstar Winery, one of the  #MerlotMe   event sponsors. Complimentary wine was provided for this post and this page may contain affiliate links. However, all opinions expressed here are my own. October has arrived. That means the air has a little bit of a chill in the morning; I actually dug jeans and a sweater out of my closet yesterday. It means squash and apples are in the markets in full force. It means I have roasts and soups on the brain. And, mostly importantly for this post, it heralds the official start of #MerlotMe month. Yes, that's right: an entire month filled with Merlot-food pairings made all the more fun with the samples of Merlot from all around that keep appearing on my doorstep! Besides getting to play with food and wine, I love that every year I receive wines from winemakers that I have never tried before. This is the perfect case in point. I received a bottle of the 2014 Merlot from Northst...

Coffee-Rubbed Lamb Tagine with Seven Hills Merlot #MerlotMe #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf Seven Hills Winery, one of the  #MerlotMe   event sponsors. Complimentary wine was provided for this post and this page may contain affiliate links. However, all opinions expressed here are my own. As I started researching for this post, I realized that this is the first non-California Merlot that I am sharing for this year's #MerlotMe. You can see several of my other pairings rounded-up in my post: So Many Merlots, So Many Pairings . When the wines starting rolling in from the event sponsors*, I posted the photo below and a friend, who was familiar with the winery, immediately chimed in with a flavor profile that had my mouth watering: lamb, coffee, and vanilla. That was it. No link to a recipe. Nothing. Just the suggestion. I ran with it! Seven Hills Merlot Seven Hills Winery was a new one to me. So, I did some reading. Located in the heart of Walla Walla, Washington, it's one of the area’s oldest winer...
