'Where the Crawdads Zing' Seafood Boil #BlendsBash #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of the Book Club Cookbook . I received complimentary product for the purpose of review and recipe development, but all opinions are honest and they are my own.  This page may contain affiliate links.   Several weeks ago, my contact at  The Book Club Cookbook  emailed, offering me a few  new spice blends  to participate in their 2021 #BlendsBash.  You betcha!  So, I planned to share a series of recipes. The first I posted was my Chai a Little Tenderness Autumn Muffins recipe. This is the second recipe. Stay tuned for the others. Where the Crawdads Zing  is a blend that was described as a 'Gulf Coast Bay Seasoning'. Comprised of a mixture of celery seed, sea salt, cayenne pepper, yellow mustard powder, thyme, paprika, black pepper, ginger, and bay, I figured I would use it as I would use Old Bay. And - in a moment of serendipity - my mom requested a seafood boil for her birthday dinner. Done! In...

Salmon Burgers with Roasted Tomatillo Cream and Fresh Corn Salad #FantasticalFoodFight

I love the Fantastical Food Fight coordinated by Sarah of  Fantastical Sharing of Recipes . For more information about the event, click  here . I haven't been very good at participating, but this month, I couldn't resist.  Our theme for the month is: burgers.   What delicious, carnivorous fun! Sarah wrote: "Your recipe must be a BURGER (theme) recipe. It does not have to be beef - any protein is fine...even black beans! Let your imagination run wild." The Burger Bar Inlinkz Link Party Since she said to let my imagination run wild, I was immediately thinking of some burger form of a low country seafood boil, as I had been rewatching some Mind of a Chef  episodes with Chef Sean Brock. But I couldn't really  figure that one out.  We love burgers and I've posted several quirky versions. Check out my Mimolette Burgers with Malbec Onions ;  I've played with lots of different flavor combinations recently, including what ...

Grilled Low Country Boil Skewers for #FishFridayFoodies

Remember that we kicked off Fish Friday Foodies earlier this year. It's a group of seafood-loving bloggers, coordinated by Wendy of  A Day in the Life on the Farm . We share fish and seafood recipes on the third Friday of the month.  This month, Sue of  Palatable Pastime   is  hosting. Here was her challenge to the group: " It's summertime! Let's "stick" to our resolutions of eating more fish and seafood this year! The event will use recipes for kebabs with fish or seafood of any sort, grilled, broiled, baked, ceviche, fish/shrimp balls...you name it. As long as you put a stick in it, it's good." Hmmmm...I had to think about this one for awhile and decided that I would do a riff on one of our favorite summer meals: a Low Country Seafood Boil. Heck, we don't even wait for summer; we did a Valentine's Seafood Boil a couple of years ago! We even did one indoors for my mom for Mothers' Day . And, then it occurred to m...

Soft-Shell Crab

The other day, at the fish market, I saw soft-shell crab. And, having never had them - much less cooked them - I picked up a pair for a quick appetizer. How hard could it be? Turns out...not hard at all. Ingredients serves 2 2 soft-shell crab flour Old Bay seasoning butter olive oil lemon wedges for serving freshly ground salt freshly ground pepper Procedure Mix flour and Old Bay seasoning. You can use as much or as little Old Bay as you like; I used 1 T for 2 C flour. Dredge the crabs in the flour mixture. Melt butter in a splash of olive oil so it doesn't burn. Sauté crabs, upside down for 2 to 3 minutes. Turn over and sauté until golden brown, another 2 to 3 minutes more. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Then transfer to your serving plates with lemon wedges for serving. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Sweet Nonna's Seafood Boil

Remember when I hosted Sweethearts' Seafood Boil for Valentines' Day ?? Well, my mom teased that she liked seafood boils...and where was her invitation? So, when we were talking about our Mothers' Day celebration, I suggested a shrimp boil. She was excited. I loved that it was easy and didn't require too much prep. A note on the recipe title. We joke that she was a mean Mommy, but she's a sweet Nonna. She assures the boys, "It's okay that your mom is mean. She'll be a sweet nonna.' And on that note, I submitted a photo our local newspaper for a Mothers' Day photo contest. My caption: Mean Mommy, Sweet Nonna. I won...well, I won one of the many prizes. But Nonna was so tickled to see her photo, with the boys from last Mothers' Day, in the newspaper this morning. By the time we got to her house this afternoon, she had clipped it out and framed it.
