The Letters to Juliet #MoviesandMunchies Round-Up + Wild Huckleberry Swirl Gelato

This month, I hosted the online Movies & Munchies group and asked the crew to watch Letters to Juliet. You can read my invitation here . Our group is small and mighty, but the posts always make me hungry. The Recipe Round-Up Wendy of A Day in the Life on the Farm shared her  Mushroom Spaghetti . Wendy shared: "There was quite a bit of food inspiration.  When the film first starts Sophie is hand fed fresh spaghetti by her fiance.  When they first arrive in Verona her fiance is going to a conference about truffles and is very upset when Claire can't understand why he would want to sit in a class about mushrooms.  He corrects her, dispelling the notion that truffles are just a mushroom. Mushrooms show up again at the end of the film convincing me that I wanted to make a pasta recipe that starred mushrooms." Terri of Our Good Life posted Letters to Juliet Inspired Mushroom Risotto . Terri sets the stage: "A group of Italian women, Juliet's secretaries, answers ea...

Creepy, Crawly Chocolate Chip Cookies #HalloweenEats

I love Halloween. I really do. I especially enjoy creating foods that look creepy.  Forget heart-shaped and red foods for Valentines' Day, though I do those, too; I have the most fun creating things such as a  Creepy Eyeball Martini   and  Cobweb Eggs ! So when I saw a friend post a photo of a chocolate chip cookie with the melted chocolate dragged out to look like spider legs, I knew I had to make them. They didn't end up being as easy as I thought. Maybe it's the kind of chocolate chips that I had, but they didn't melt into an oozy chocolate mess. I had to melt chocolate separately and draw on the legs with a toothpick. Still, they were worth the effort for a creepy, crawly chocolate chip cookie. You can use your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. This is just one of many that I make. This one ends up being more crisp and a little bit more flat than my salted olive oil chocolate chip cookies . Have fun! Ingredients  makes approximately two dozen 3-...

Bat Brew-Brined Chicken Thighs #Sponsored

This post is sponsored  by Adagio Teas .  I received complimentary product for the purpose of review . All opinions are mine alone. I have already posted two recipes using the  Wicked Teas Sampler Set   from  Adagio Teas ,* but they were both sweets and I wanted to feature at least one savory recipe with Adagio's Limited Edition Wicked Teas that features six Halloween themed teas packaged in spooky metal tins. This recipe uses their Bat Brew, a blend of black tea, cinnamon bark, ginger root, cocoa nibs, chocolate chips, and edible confetti.  Yes, it's a fun little mix whose eye-candy appeal isn't really highlighted in this recipe. But the flavors are decidedly Fall and Halloween-y. I love it! You can make this with any black tea blend that you like. I hope you'll try it. Ingredients serves 4 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs olive oil for drizzling Brine 1/4 C salt 1 T organic granulated sugar 2 C water 2 T tea ...

Día de los Muertos Sprinkled Cookies

This year I'm participating in a Christmas cookies event and a most of the event sponsors sent out product to try. Two of the sponsors were completely new to me and I loved what I received...so much so that I've already ordered three times on my own from one of them, Sprinkle Pop .  When I saw their  Día de los Muertos sprinkle mix , I couldn't resist. I ordered that and some sugar skulls for a batch of Halloween cookies. Last night I baked cookies late into the evening and wrapped them up for the robotics team, Jake's office, and a few lucky friends.  And a quick note about the frosting: I know they look colorfully toxic, but these were made with vegetable and fruit-based food dyes. I'll write more about them later as they, too, are a #ChristmasCookies sponsor. But I will share that I love that the colors are made from fruits, vegetables, and spices. No Red No. 40 here!   Ingredients  makes approximately 60 cookies Almond Cook...

Atole de Pinole y Vainilla #EattheWorld

Here we are in October for another installment of our #EattheWorld project, being spearheaded by Evelyne of  CulturEatz . Here's  her challenge . In February we kicked off the project with  Cuba ; in March we celebrated St. Patrick's Day with a tabletop trip to  Ireland !  Thailand  was our April destination. May had us headed to  Kenya . You get the idea. In any case for this month, she invites us to a special edition - Halloween around the World. She asked us to "choose a Halloween (or similar celebration) or scary recipe from a country of your choice and explain why you chose it or talk about the country a little bit." What spooky, delicious fun.
