Pain au Jambon for #FoodieExtravaganza

It's Foodie Extravaganza Day and this month's theme is Croissants, although some will be using the Crescent Roll. This month's host is Kathleen from Fearlessly Creative Mammas . What is Food Extravaganza? It's when a group of bloggers get together and make a recipe using one main ingredient. Where do we get the ingredient? We look at The Nibble and pick something off of their list. Croissants are actually celebrated on January 30th, but it's in January, so it's fair game. You can check out our group Pinterest board for past recipes. If you're a blogger, you can join along with us by requesting to join on our Facebook page. Now, on to the goodness.  Just look at all the wonderful croissant recipes being shared today! Grilled Gruyère on Rye with Crisped Sage and Pink Lady Slices + Pink Moscato for #SundaySupper

This week bloggers with the Sunday Supper Movement have partnered with  Gallo Family Vineyards  celebrate National Grilled Cheese Month. Yes, that is a thing. Who knew? I certainly didn’t. But I now have it set as a recurrence on my calendar. Our mission:  to get adventurous with our grilled cheese sandwiches to discover the ideal combination of taste and texture. Click to read  Gallo’s post about Grilled Cheese .  Though I was excited to participate in this celebration of the crisp, buttery, and gooey American classic, I was also extremely nervous. My dilemma: I haven’t made a grilled cheese sandwich since, probably, college and my palate then was not very discerning. Back then, food was merely sustenance whereas now, it’s sustenance mixed with creativity and panache – I hope! Asking friends for advice didn’t help either. Most people hav...

Croques Monsieur et Madame for La Fête Nationale

Quatorze Juillet! July 14th is often thought of as France's Independence Day. More accurately, though, it's French National Day — called La Fête Nationale in French — and commemorates the day, in 1789, when crowds stormed the Bastille, a fortress used as a prison in Paris. The event marks the beginning of the French Revolution. I wanted to make something French for dinner - and fast. I still had to meet a deadline after all. I finally decided on croque madame . The croque monsieur , is a ham and Gruyère sandwich slathered in cheesy béchamel; a  croque monsieur  becomes a croque madame when a fried egg is placed on top of it. "What does that mean, Mommy?" asked the Lil' Wom. Croque Monsieur is something like 'crunchy mister.' And Croque Madame  is 'crunchy missus.' "I get it! I get it!" he erupted. Get what? "I get why it becomes a girl when you put an egg on top." [Deep breaths.] Okay. Why does it become a...
