Bouza 2017 Albariño Tasting Notes + Linguine alle Vongole #WinePW #UruguayWine #Sponsored

Ahead of the Wine Pairing Weekend's focus on wines from Uruguay in February, I received four bottles of wine from Elixir Wine Group* out of Bend, Oregon. I received two bottles of Albariño and two bottles of Tannat from Bodega Bouza. While this is not my official pairing for #WinePW this month, I wanted to share this because it was delicious!

The Notes
From my reading, this Albariño began as an experiment for Bodega Bouza. And it has ended up being one of the more popular bottlings! The Albariño  cuttings planted in the Melilla and Las Violetas vineyards originated in Rias Biaxas, Spain - from the rural family-owned plots of Bouza family relatives.

These were harvested on two days in February with a majority of the wine fermented in stainless steel tanks and just a bit in French oak barrels. Aged 4 months on the lees, these were bottled - unfiltered - in July.

A light straw color in the glass, you get bold tropical aromas early on that mellow to an almost floral note as the wine warms. On the tongue, the wine starts sweet and evolves to have a balanced acidity. It's delightful!


The Pairing
I matched the wine with Linguine alle Vongole. My version is creamy, but made a bit more complex with the licorice flavors in fresh fennel and a splash of Sambuca. Sweet, herbaceous, and citrus made this a great pairing. You can see my pasta recipe here.

Quick Pickled Red Onions and Radishes

If you've been reading my blog for even a short amount of time, you probably know how much I love to pickle things. I was just telling a friend you can pickle - with vinegar - or you can ferment - with salt - for similar delicious effect. The latter has digestive benefits and I love to do that, but when I need that pop of sour flavor quickly, I whip up quick pickles that are ready in as little as a day or two. I've Pickled Blueberries , Pickled Asparagus , Pickled Cranberries , Pickled Pumpkin , and even Pickled Chard Stems ! This I did last night for an upcoming recipe challenge that requires I include radishes. Ummmm...of course I'm pickling them!
