The Letters to Juliet #MoviesandMunchies Round-Up + Wild Huckleberry Swirl Gelato

This month, I hosted the online Movies & Munchies group and asked the crew to watch Letters to Juliet. You can read my invitation here . Our group is small and mighty, but the posts always make me hungry. The Recipe Round-Up Wendy of A Day in the Life on the Farm shared her  Mushroom Spaghetti . Wendy shared: "There was quite a bit of food inspiration.  When the film first starts Sophie is hand fed fresh spaghetti by her fiance.  When they first arrive in Verona her fiance is going to a conference about truffles and is very upset when Claire can't understand why he would want to sit in a class about mushrooms.  He corrects her, dispelling the notion that truffles are just a mushroom. Mushrooms show up again at the end of the film convincing me that I wanted to make a pasta recipe that starred mushrooms." Terri of Our Good Life posted Letters to Juliet Inspired Mushroom Risotto . Terri sets the stage: "A group of Italian women, Juliet's secretaries, answers ea...

Three Mushroom Pâté + J. Lohr 2020 Los Osos Merlot #WinePW #MerlotME #Sponsored

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf J. Lohr Vineyards, one of the #MerlotMe event sponsors.  Complimentary wine was provided for this post and this page may contain affiliate links.  However, all opinions expressed here are my own. Let the month of Merlot commence! When #MerlotME rolls around, I always have a nice selection of bottles to pair. Because I have always loved pairing mushrooms with Merlot - and because my mushroom-averse child is off at college and unable to ruin my mushroom dishes with his eye-rolling and complaining - I decided to make a Mushroom Pâté with three different mushrooms to go with the 2020 J. Lohr Merlot from Paso Robles. Here begins my parade of Merlot + Mushroom pairings for #MerlotME 2022! J. Lohr 2020 Los Osos Merlot Though this wine is from the Paso Robles AVA, San Luis Obispo County, Jerry Lohr has ties to my neck of the woods. Lohn first planted grapes in Monterey's Arroyo Seco district in the 1970s. Then he saw potential in the Pa...

This month the Italian Food Wine Travel bloggers are writing about Valpolicella wines with Wendy of A Day in the Life on the Farm leading the discussion. If you are reading this early enough, feel free to join our live chat on Twitter on Saturday, October 1st at 8am Pacific. Follow the hashtag #ItalianFWT and be sure to add it to anything you tweet so we can see it. Valpolicella, said Wendy. Okay, I said. It was time to do some reading and tasting. Raise your hand if you’ve heard of it? If you’re an Italian wine buff, you probably already know a thing or two about this wine-making region. If not, sit back, relax, and let us take you on a guided tour.  Here's the line-up of #ItalianFWT articles about Valpolicella... #9thAnnualPieathalon: Chocolate Angel Pie

In 2018 the Pieathalon was a new-to-me event. I have since participated in the 5th, 6th, and 7th Annual Pieathalons which are coordinated by Emily of  Dinner is Served 1972 . Every year is a ton of fun. So, when she emailed to see if I were interested in participating in the 9th annual pieathalon, I was in! Since this whole Pieathalon thing is only once a year, I'll share the rules with my readers.  1. Pick a pie recipe from a pre-1990 cookbook. 2. Email it to Emily. 3. She assigns it randomly to another pieathlete. 4. We bake. 5. We post. 6. We share. Today's the day! Get ready for some fun retro pie recipes. My assignment this year came from Kari at  The Nostalgic Cook . Let's get this party started! Arancini, Addictive Sicilian Fast Food #FoodieReads

The Villa in Sicily  by Elise Darcy recently came up on my Kindle as a suggestion and that dangerous one-click-to-purchase did me in. But I'm so glad I did though as I enjoyed this book. It wasn't particularly deep or thought-provoking, but it was set on Sicily and had a cast of interesting characters. And that pretty much means I will love it! Josie's mom has recently passed away and she discovers - in a locked drawer in her mom's office - a journal and a plane ticket to Sicily. Josie decides to take that trip and try to figure out more about the two sisters in the journal. The book has lots and twists and turns, unexpected - and some expected - romantic capers. there is even a Mafia sub-plot that isn't too frightening. It's a fun afternoon diversion. And, with any book set in Italy, food is abundant. When one of my favorite Italian street foods is mentioned, I couldn't help but make a batch. Josie "found a street vendor a little way along the seafro...
