Gahwa (Bahraini Spiced Coffee)
excited to be able to uncork the bottle of saffron threads a good friend gave me for Christmas. Yes, my friends know what I like! And I really, really liked this coffee.
4 T pulverized coffee (the original calls for "gulf coffee")
1 t ground cardamom
large pinch of saffron
2 T rosewater
Bring water to boil.
Add the coffee, cardamom, and saffron.
Simmer uncovered on low heat for 5 minutes.
Bring mixture up to the boil again then remove from the heat.
Add the rosewater and bring to a boil a third time and simmer, again, on low heat for another 5 minutes.
Serve in demitasse cups with dates, mixed nuts or pastries.
